Novell eProvisioning solution streamlines administrative processes, saving substantial time and resources for Canada's oldest community college.
Centennial College, Ontario's first community college, serves the Toronto area and operates four campuses and eight satellite locations. A fifth campus under construction will house the new Centre of Science and Technology and approximately 3,500 students. Centennial's current enrollment includes 12,000 full-time and 30,000 part-time students.
Centennial's information systems (IS) team wanted to replace its complex heterogeneous computing infrastructure with a central, robust, user-friendly platform to better manage its 3,000 employee and student workstations. The solution needed to offer a single point of authentication; real-time synchronization of multiple databases and applications; secure access to data from outside the firewall; and centralized network management and administration. After a thorough evaluation of various solution providers, Centennial College selected Novell to address its infrastructure needs.
Centennial College chose Novell and its Platinum Partner, Tenet Computer Group of Toronto, to implement a tightly integrated Novell environment. An eProvisioning solution, including Novell eDirectory and DirXML, was selected to enhance the scalability and performance of the college's network in an Internet environment, enabling it to extend network support to students and faculty outside the traditional infrastructure.
"Our network is growing to accommodate up to 60,000 students," says Ken Klucha, Information Technology Infrastructure Management manager. "But unless we implemented a provisioning solution that made authentication and network administration fast, reliable, simple and secure, the sheer volume of accounts would be unmanageable. The sustained stability of eDirectory validated our decision to standardize on Novell directory products. Tying it all together through Novell makes everything much easier."
