What happens when you lose your NW 4.1/4.11 License disk? Well you usually have little choice but to call Novell and open up an incident, right? Wrong!! Here is an easy way to recover the info, but this won't work (AFAIK) in 4.2 or 5.x.

First of all you need to get the JCMD utility from almost any novell shareware site. If you can't find it, e-mail me, and I'll send it to you. JCMD acts as a command line shell right on the novell console (this can be very handy in other situations as well). Anyway, load it on the console, then change directory to "sys:_netware". This directory contains very important NDS files which should NEVER be modified under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!! The only file that you need to worry about is the "mls.00x" file where "x" is a number from 0-whatever indicating how many license disks have been applied to the server. Now, copy that file(s) to another location on the server using the built-in copy command of JCMD. Then, after you have copied the file(s), type "exit" to get out of the shell, you don't need to be in it anymore.

Now, go to the location that you copied the file(s) to (via a workstation) and rename each one to "server.mls" and copy it to a floppy. Viola, you have recreated your license disk. I reiterate however, that this doesn't work (AFAIK) in 4.2 and 5.x because of the new license scheme that was introduced.

Well, I hope this can be of use, and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask
