The Inventory Policy settings configure the inventory scanning at the managed workstations.
The Inventory Policy settings stored in NDSTM are associated with a workstation object. Each workstation object has an associated Inventory Policy.
The scan policies that you can configure in the Inventory Policy include the following:
When this option is checked, the next time the workstations associated with this policy package are scanned, the scan programs will collect software information.
NOTE: Software scanning includes scanning of configuration files at the workstations.
Select an inventory server. The Inventory Gatherer and Inventory Storer are located on the same NetWare® server, which is referred as the Inventory Server. The ZENworksTM install program configures the ZENworks server as the inventory server, by default.
Select an inventory database sever to store the inventory data. The NetWare server that contains the ZENworks inventory database is referred as the Inventory Database server. The inventory database functions as a repository of hardware and software information. This database is a Relational Database Management System (RDBMS) maintained in Sybase*.
The scan programs contact the inventory server or the inventory database server over IP if either the DNS or IP address of the server is specified.
Specify the list of software applications that will be scanned at the workstation.
In the Software Scan Policy window, you can customize the software scanning of applications at the workstations that are associated with the policy package. This window displays the list of applications that will be scanned based on the applications that you selected in the Software List Editor.
Refer to Setting up Software Scanning Preferences for more information on modifying the policy.
By default, the inventory server location is displayed. This is where the scan programs and the software description file are located. Choose the nearest inventory server.
ZENworks uses platform-dependent scan programs to determine the hardware and software configurations of workstations. The inventory scan program, WINSCAN.EXE, scans Windows* 95 and Windows 98 over IP and IPXTM. The scan program, NTSCAN32.EXE, scans Windows NT* workstations over IP and IPX.
ZENworks requires that you specify the location of LDAPPL.INI (the software description file) on the inventory files server. This file defines the software scan settings.
