Novell iManager
Overview
Novell® iManager provides a global view of your network from one browser-based tool, allowing you to proactively assess and respond to your changing network demands. With iManager, you can manage Novell eDirectory and many other Novell and third-party services from a Web browser. This centralized Web-based management allows you to eliminate both administrative redundancy and unnecessary travel, saving time and money.
The product, which ships with Novell eDirectory, Novell NetWare® and many other Novell products, provides a single point of administration for Novell eDirectory objects, schema, partitions, replicas and many other network resources.
Novell iManager also provides a number of advanced capabilities that take network administration to a new level. Most notably, iManager features delegated administration, which allows you to assign individuals with specific management tasks and duties. Delegating simple administrative tasks like resetting passwords or adding network printers, allows you, the network administrator, to focus on strategic projects that more directly affect the company's bottom line. In addition, the product runs on a variety of operating systems, including Novell NetWare, Linux, Windows, Solaris, and HP-UX. This multi-platform support gives you flexibility in where and how you deploy the management console, which helps to address the challenge of managing complex, heterogeneous networks, where a wide range of applications are running on a variety of operating systems.
Other innovations in Novell iManager include the new Plug-in Studio, which allows you to create a customized management interface without writing a single line of code. Below is an illustration of how the Plug-in Studio could be used, for example, to provide a helpdesk administrator with access to only those user attributes that are applicable to his/her jobrather than the entire user management function:

Leveraging standard technologies and application interfaces, Novell iManager provides an ideal architecture for the creation of a customized management interface; and iManager will eventually serve as a single management console for all Novell products. As you add new Novell products to your network, the iManager console will seamlessly incorporate the attributes, property pages, object types and other functions that correspond to those products. With iManager, secure, flexible network administration is only a browser away.
