Connecting an IPX-Only Site to the Internet

In this scenario, Acme Company is running only IPXTM on the network. Acme wants to use NovellŽ BorderManagerTM to allow only intranet users to access and browse the Internet. Acme has the following requirements:

The following BorderManager components are used to implement this scenario, as shown in Figure 31:

To implement BorderManager to connect to the Internet, Acme Company must perform the following general sequence of steps:

  1. Set up the BorderManager server to use dial on-demand routing to the ISP.

  2. Install BorderManager and enable the default packet filters and access control during the installation.

  3. Using NetWareŽ Administrator, BorderManager Services page, enable and configure the IPX/IP gateway.

  4. Using NetWare Administrator, BorderManager Services page, enable and configure the Transparent proxy application.

  5. Using NetWare Administrator, enable and configure access control rules for the intranet users.

  6. Ensure that users who will use the IPX/IP gateway install and configure the gateway component of the Novell ClientTM software.
