21.7 Viewing DSTrace Log Files

The DSTrace view is an editor that enables you to view DSTrace log files. These log files contain information (including XML data) about the Metadirectory.

The DSTrace view is not the same as the Trace view, which provides information about Designer functionality. For information on the Trace view, see Section 23.3.13, Trace.

To view DSTrace log files:

  1. Click Tools > DS Trace View.

  2. Navigate to and open a DSTrace log file.

    To import these log files, drag them from the file browser or the desktop and drop them in the Project view’s resources folder.

  3. Filter the trace based on date and time.

  4. View XML information in the . log file by clicking Enhanced XML.

    Designer highlights the XML code. This feature can be helpful when you want to see the various parts of the XML documents in the trace file. If no XML exists in the file, content in the Basic tab displays.

  5. Search for content that you are interested in.

    To quickly find information in the . log file, click the Search icon, enter text in the Find field, then click Find.

    You can also access the Find/Replace dialog box by pressing Ctrl+F or by clicking the main menu’s Edit > Find/Replace path.
