1.1 Internationalization Features

Message Tools includes three basic executable files:

Each executable includes three basic tasks: Create XLIFF (see An XLIFF File), Update XLIFF, and Create MSG. These three tasks incorporate the functionality of some of the executable files included with the former internationalization tools set.

The following table lists the old executable file names (along with their descriptions) and shows you in which task you can now find that specific functionality.

Copies quoted strings from source files into an XLIFF file and marks tags and message numbers in source files.

Labels an XLIFF file with program name, program version, language ID, and translation version number.

Create XLIFF, Update XLIFF

MsgPFix.exe MsgPFix32.exe

Fixes the parameter count errors in an XLIFF file.

MsgMake32.exe MsgMake.exe

Makes an XLIFF file.

Create XLIFF

MsgExp.exe MsgExp32.exe

Creates a binary message module (.MSG file) from an XLIFF file.

Message Tools also includes a third executable file, MdbXliff.exe, for backward compatibility. You can use this program to convert old 16-bit Btrieve, DOS message database (MDB) files into XLIFF files for use by the new Message Tools.
