1.0 Overview

IMPORTANT:When developing applications for NetWare® 5 and NetWare 6 servers (that won't be used on NetWare 3.12 through 4.x servers), do not use the Media Manager for NetWare 3.12 through 4.x functions. Instead call the functions that are documented here.

When developing applications for NetWare 3.12 through 4.x servers (which support only a single processor), use the Media Manager and Partition Management APIs in NetWare Peripheral Architecture. Those APIs also work with NetWare 5, but they do not support the multiple processor capabilities of NetWare 5 and NetWare 6.

Prior to NetWare 5, the Media Manager emulated the NetWare 3.x DAI interface. The DAI interface is not supported in NetWare 5. The NetWare 5 Media Manager introduces a new set of APIs. This set was created to fully support the new Multi- Processor Kernel. The Media Manager now emulates the Media Manager APIs that existed prior to NetWare 5. The emulated APIs do not take advantage of the multiple processors. In the future, the Media Manager APIs prior to NetWare 5 will also no longer be supported.

Any references to appendixes that do not exist will be made available separately at a later date. New appendixes will be included in this document in a later release.
