3.2 Installing the Novell Client for Windows XP

These installation steps are specific to installing the Novell Client on Windows XP.

  1. Download the latest Novell Client for Windows 2000/XP/2003 from Novell Downloads. The download is a self-extracting executable file.

  2. Extract the client files to a directory on SUT.

  3. Install the Novell client.

    1. Browse to the directory where you extracted the client files.

    2. Double click on setupnw.

    3. Select Custom Installation and click Next.

    4. Click Next to install the Novell Client for Windows.

    5. Click Next to accept the installation of NMAS.

    6. Select IP and IPX and click Next.

    7. Select NDS as the login authenticator and click Next.

    8. Click Finish to initiate the file copy.

    9. Click Reboot to restart Windows. Remove the Novell Client CD.

  4. Set the file caching parameter.

    1. Right-click the red Novell N on the taskbar.

    2. Click Novell Client Properties.

    3. Click the Advanced Settings tab.

    4. Select File Caching.

    5. Change the setting to OFF.

    6. Click OK to save the change and close the Novell Client for Windows Properties window.

    7. Click No to on the reboot now message.

  5. Add IPXCosting to the registry.

    1. Click the Start button.

    2. Select Run.

    3. Type REGEDIT <Enter>.

    4. Click the plus icon next to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE.

    5. Click the plus icon next to SYSTEM.

    6. Click the plus icon next to ControlSet001.

    7. Click the plus icon next to Services.

    8. Click the plus icon next to Netware Workstation.

    9. Click Parameters.

    10. Right-click the white space in the right window pane and select New > DWORD Value.

    11. Type IPXCosting <Enter>.

    12. Right-click IPXCosting and select Modify.

    13. Type 0 <Enter> in the Value data: field.

    14. Close REGEDIT.

  6. Restart the system to allow the new setting to take effect.
