Installing Novell eDirectory on Windows NT/2000

Novell eDirectory 8.7 for NT/2000 can co-exist with the following NDS® and eDirectory versions:

Installing eDirectory

  1. At the NT/2000 server, log in as Administrator or as a user with administrative privileges.

  2. If you have Autorun turned off, run SETUP.EXE from the NT directory on the Novell eDirectory 8.7 CD or from the downloaded file.

  3. Select the language for the installation > click OK.

  4. Select the components you want to install or upgrade.

You can install the following components separately or together.

    • Install Novell Directory Services®

Installs or upgrades eDirectory in an NT/2000-only or mixed server environment.

    • SLP Directory Agent

Installs SLP Directory Agent, which allows you to control the collection and dissemination of network service information through advanced features.

You can select the type of setup you want to install:

Directory: Use eDirectory to manage, configure, and store Directory Agents, scopes, and services.

Local: The Directory Agent and its associated scopes and services are stored and configured through the local machine.

    • Install ConsoleOne

      Installs ConsoleOne 1.3.4.

  5. Click Install.

The installation program checks for the following components. If a component is missing or is an incorrect version, the installation program automatically launches an installation for the component.

  6. Follow the online instructions in the Installation Wizards.

If your eDirectory tree does not have a Novell Certificate Server, the eDirectory installation program does the following:

    • Creates a Security container object for the entire eDirectory tree.

This object is created at the top of the eDirectory tree and must remain there.

    • Creates an Organizational Certificate Authority (CA) object.
    • Places the Organizational CA object in the Security container.

Only one Organizational CA object can exist in an eDirectory tree. Because you must not move this object from one server to another, ensure that the first eDirectory server is the one that you intend to permanently host the Organizational CA object.

IMPORTANT:  You should make sure that the HTTP stack ports you set during the eDirectory install are different than the HTTP stack ports you have used or will be using for Novell iManager. For more information, see Installing Novell iManager in the Novell iManager Administration Guide.

Installing NMAS Server Software

NMAS server components are installed automatically when you run the eDirectory installation program. You will need to select the login methods you want to install.

Select a login method or methods that you want to install into eDirectory by clicking the appropriate checkbox. When you select a login method, a description of the component appears in the Description box. For more information on login methods, see Setting Up Login and Post-Login Methods and Sequences in Novell Modular Authentication Service Administration Guide.

Click Select All if you want to install all the login methods into eDirectory. Click Select Clear All if you want to clear all selections. The NDS login method is installed by default.

Installing NMAS Client Software

The NMAS client software must be installed on each client workstation where you want to use the NMAS login methods.

  1. From a Windows client workstation, insert the Novell eDirectory 8.7 CD.

  2. From the NMAS directory, run NMASINSTALL.EXE.

  3. Select the checkbox next to NMAS Client Components.

Optionally, you can select the checkbox next to NICI if you want to install this component.

  4. Click OK > follow the on-screen instructions.

  5. Reboot the client workstation upon completion.
