You can download Novell® eDirectory™ 8.7.3 in either of the following ways:

For new installs of Novell eDirectory, the installation requires a cryptography foundation key file (.nfk) to initialize the Novell International Cryptography Infrastructure component. Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 for all supported platforms is available for free for evaluation in nonproduction environments (see Downloading Evaluation License Files). If you want to run Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 in a production environment, see How to Buy Novell eDirectory. If you are upgrading from eDirectory 8.7 or 8.7.1, you don't need an additional license.

Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 Platform-Specific Downloads

The Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 Platform-Specific Downloads option lets you download compressed versions of eDirectory for NetWare®, Windows*, Linux*, Solaris*,  AIX*, and HP-UX*. Each platform is a separate download. After uncompressing the downloaded file, you can run the eDirectory installation program for that platform.

NetWare and Windows

  1. Create a directory on your server or workstation (for example, sys:\edir or C:\novell\nds).

Note: On Windows 2000 servers, you cannot install eDirectory from a path that contains non-ASCII characters. On international language machines, the eDirectory install should be copied to the root of the drive or to a folder that contains only ASCII characters. Failure to do so could result in the failure of the install to complete successfully.

  1. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.7.3 Platform-Specific Downloads, then click Download.
  2. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the zipped file (eDir_873_nw_full.exe or eDir_873_win_full.exe) to the directory you created.
  3. Unzip the file.

Linux, Solaris, AIX, and HP-UX

  1. Create a directory on the UNIX* host.
  2. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.7.3 Platform-Specific Downloads, then click Download.
  3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the zipped file (eDir_873_linux_full.tar.gz, eDir_873_solaris_full.tar.gz, eDir_873_aix_full.tar.gz, or eDir_873_hpux_full.tar.gz) to the directory you created.
  4. Use gunzip <downloaded file name> to convert the downloaded file to a tar file.
  5. Use tar xvf <eDirectory file name.tar> to get the eDirectory installation and uninstallation scripts.

Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 CD (ISO) Images Downloads

The Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 CD (ISO) Images Downloads option lets you download exact copies of the eDirectory 8.7.3 distribution CDs. After you download an .iso file and burn the .iso image to CD, an exact duplicate of the original eDirectory CD is created. Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 cannot be installed directly from the electronic .iso files. A CD image of the file MUST be created first. Create the installation CD according to the instructions for your CD imaging software.

  1. Create a directory on your server.
  2. On the Novell Product Downloads page, find eDirectory 8.7.3 CD (ISO) Images Downloads, then click Download.
  3. Follow the onscreen prompts to download the .iso file to the directory you created.
