Most email clients can search the message for you, but Evolution does it differently and efficiently giving you faster search result with Quick search, Customized Search and Advanced Search.
Quick Search: Quick Search displays all the messages that match the in-built criteria you selected from the drop-down list at the top left side, just above the message list.
To perform quick search, perform the following procedure:
Click Show to expand the drop-down list.

HINT:The following labels need not necessarily be the same as the default names listed here.You can change the name of these labels by selecting Edit > Preferences > Mail Preferences > Labels.

Customized Search: Evolution allows you to perform customized search.To search for a message use the following procedure:
Click search icon to specify the search type.
Subject or Sender Contain: Finds messages that contain the search text in the subject or sender. It does not search in the message body.
Recipients Contain: Finds messages with the search text in the To: and Cc: headers.
Message Contains: Searches the message body and all headers for the specified text.
Subject Contain: Shows messages where the search text is in the subject line.
Sender Contain: Finds messages whose From: header contains a match for your search text.
Body Contains: Searches only in message text, not any other header.
Click the drop-down list to select the scope

Type the search string in the search entry and press Enter.
NOTE:The folder list will be disabled while you perform search on All Accounts or Current Account.
Evolution shows your search results in the message list. You might want to create a search folder instead; see Section 4.6, Using Search Folders for more detail.
NOTE:To clear your search click the Clear button or menu, or enter a blank search. You can also press Shift+Ctrl+Q to clear the search.
HINT:You can even perform a quick search on a customized search results as it just filters and displays the messages in the message list.
Advanced Search: To perform advanced search,
Select Search menu
Click Advanced Search to open Advanced Search dialogue box
Enter the Search name.
Click Add to add rules. For more information on rules, refer Step 4 under Section 4.6.1, Creating A Search Folder.
Click OK.
Press Save to save your search results.
Save Search: To save your search results other than from advanced search, select Search > Save Search. You can view the label of your search results listed under Search menu.
Edit Saved Searches: To edit your saved searches
Select Search
Click Edit Saved Searches to open Searches dialogue box.
Click Edit tab to edit to open Edit Rule dialogue box
You can also add or remove Searches from the list by using the respective buttons available at the right.
Edit the title or search criteria from the dialogue box.
Click OK.
