17.1 GroupWise Versus Filr Controls

Filr integration is built-in to GroupWise for both administrative and user actions. Filr integration must be enabled by the GroupWise Administrator for you to connect to Filr when attaching files.

  • GroupWise controls. GroupWise enforces Filr attachment controls when two conditions are met: (1) Filr Integration is enabled in GroupWise, and (2) GroupWise Settings are disabled in Filr.

If GroupWise Settings are not enabled in Filr, the GroupWise Administrator controls storage settings for attachments and the option that enables sharing files with public accessible links.

  • Filr controls. Filr enforces Filr attachment controls when two conditions are met: (1) Filr Integration is enabled in GroupWise, and (2) GroupWise Settings are enabled in Filr.

If the Filr Administrator has enabled GroupWise Settings in Filr and Filr Integration is enabled in GroupWise, Filr options in the GroupWise client are defined by the settings that the Filr Administrator controls.

  • Default Attachment. This setting is unrelated to the Filr GroupWise Settings or GroupWise enforcement controls and determines whether your local directories or Filr directories open for the primary attach controls. The GroupWise Administrator may enable this so that you can control the setting.

To see if you can make changes to this setting, navigate to Tools > Options > Environment > Default Actions tab > Default attachment setting. If Local computer and Filr are selectable, you have rights to choose your preference.
