Chapter 1: Plan the Gateway
Before running the Install program, you should review the requirements of the gateway, communications link, and the mainframe. Also, complete the worksheet at the end of this chapter.
Use the worksheet to record the information required to set up the gateway. If you print this chapter, the worksheet will be printed with it. To print the worksheet only, see Appendix C: Worksheet.
What Does the GroupWise Gateway for OfficeVision/VM Do?
The GroupWise* Gateway for OfficeVision/VM** lets GroupWise users exchange messages with IBM** OfficeVision/VM (formerly PROFS**) users. The gateway does the following:
The following table lists the hardware and software required to run the NLM* version of the gateway.
| Hardware/Software | Recommended |
| CPU | 80486 |
| RAM | 16 MB |
| SYS: Partition | 200 MB |
| NetWare* Version | 3.1x or 4.1 |
| NetWare for SAA | 2.0 or later |
The following table lists the hardware and software required to run the OS/2** version of the gateway.
| Hardware/Software | Recommended |
| CPU | 80486 |
| RAM | 12 MB |
| Hard Disk | 80 MB |
| Operating System | OS/2 2.1 or higher |
Communications Link Requirements
To establish a link between the LAN and the mainframe, the gateway station must include:
The mainframe requirements are:
The worksheet is designed to make the information you need to install the communication software and the gateway easily accessible for future reference. The columns of the worksheet are have the following headings:
Configuration Item: This column displays the requested item. Enter the configuration value in the blank space provided.
Where Defined: This column explains where the configuration item can be obtained.
Value/Sample: This column displays sample values.
Where Used by IBM Communications Manager: This column provides the destination and where the configuration value is used by the IBM Communications Manager. If you are using NetWare for SAA to establish the communications link, ignore this column.
Where Used by NetWare for SAA: This column provides the destination and where the configuration value is used by NetWare for SAA. If you are using the IBM Communications Manager to establish the communications link, ignore this column.
The worksheet is divided into the following categories:
VTAM: The items in this category must be provided by the mainframe system programmer.
RSCS: The items in this category must be provided by the mainframe system programmer.
NetWare for SAA: The items in this category are required before you use CSCON to configure NetWare for SAA if you are using NetWare for SAA for your communications link.
The numbered line items on the worksheet are referred to in various places in this guide. You can save time and avoid frustration if you fill out the worksheet before you proceed with the installation process.
