Restoring a Post Office

Typically, damage to databases in a post office can be repaired using the database maintenance tools provided in ConsoleOne or using GroupWise Check (GWCheck). See Maintaining Domain and Post Office Databases, Maintaining User/Resource and Message Databases, and GroupWise Check (GWCheck).

If damage to the post office was so severe that rebuilding databases is not possible:

  1. Stop the POA for the post office. See Stopping the POA.

  2. Use the GroupWise Target Service Agent (GWTSA) with a supported backup program or your backup software of choice to restore the various databases into their proper locations in the post office directory. See GroupWise Target Service Agent (GWTSA).

  3. If you do not use the GWTSA to restore the post office, time stamp the restored user databases so that old items will not be automatically purged during nightly maintenance. Select the Post Office object > click Tools > GroupWise Utilities > Backup/Restore Mailbox; on the Backup tab, select Restore, then click Yes.

  4. Restart the POA for the post office. See Starting the POA.

  5. To update the restored post office database (wphost.db) with the most current information stored in the domain database, rebuild the post office database. See Rebuilding Domain or Post Office Databases.

  6. To update other restored databases (userxxx.db and msgnn.db) with the most current information stored in other post offices, run Analyze/Fix Databases with Contents selected. See Analyzing and Fixing User and Message Databases.
