Configuring the MTA's Host for DNS Lookups

In order for an MTA in your GroupWise system to use dynamic Internet links to send messages, you must make sure the MTA's host (server or workstation) is properly configured for DNS lookups. Basic configuration information is provided below. Consult your DNS documentation for more detailed information about configuring a server or workstation for DNS lookups.


Configuring a NetWare 6.x, 5.x, or 4.x Server for DNS Lookups

On a NetWare® server, you need to have a resolv.cfg file in the sys:\etc directory that defines the DNS name server for that NetWare server. The resolv.cfg file would look similar to the following, based on a novell.com domain:

domain novell.com 
nameserver 123.456.78.99

Configuring a Windows NT Workstation or Server for DNS Lookups

On the Windows* NT* workstation or server:

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Network > click Protocols > TCP/IP Protocol > Properties > DNS.

  3. In the DNS Server Search Order box, make sure the IP address of at least one DNS name server is listed.

Configuring a Windows 2000 Workstation or Server for DNS Lookups

On the Windows 2000 workstation or server:

  1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Network and Dial-Up Connections > double-click Local Area Connection > click Properties to display the Local Area Connection Properties page.

  3. In the list of protocols, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)  > click Properties to display the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) Properties page.

  4. Click Advanced to display the Advanced TCP/IP Settings dialog box.

  5. Click the DNS tab, then make sure the IP address of at least one DNS name server is listed in the DNS Server Addresses list.
