15.2 Updating the Primary Domain

To update the primary domain, you need to install and start the GroupWise 7 MTA. The MTA uses the new domain dictionary file (gwdom.dc) to update the domain database to version 7.

IMPORTANT:The MTA cannot be running while you update the MTA software files.

To install and start the GroupWise 7 MTA:

  1. Follow the instructions for your platform to start the Agent Installation program:

    NetWare:

    To install the MTA to a NetWare server, make sure the workstation has access to both the primary domain directory and the NetWare server where you want to install the MTA, enter the path to the primary domain directory, then click Update to launch the Agent Installation program.

    Linux:

    To install the MTA on a Linux server, click Finish, then click Install Products > Install GroupWise Agents to start the Agent Installation program.

    Windows:

    To install the MTA to a Windows server, click Finish, go to the Windows server, ensure that you have access to the primary domain directory, then start the Agent Installation program (install.exe). The Agent Installation program is located in the \agents directory in the GroupWise 7 software distribution directory or on the GroupWise 7 Administrator for NetWare/Windows CD.

  2. Follow the instructions for your platform to install the GroupWise 7 MTA to your primary domain.

  3. Start the MTA for the primary domain so that the primary domain database (wpdomain.db) is updated to GroupWise 7.

  4. Before you update post offices in the primary domain or any secondary domains in your system, make sure that the domain database has been updated by checking the Database Version field on the Identification property page of the Domain object in ConsoleOne.

  5. To update post offices in the domain, continue with the next section, Updating Post Offices.
