GroupWise Remote gives users the ability to access their mailboxes when working away from the main GroupWise system. Each GroupWise Remote user has a Master Mailbox (on the network) and a remote mailbox. Any work performed in GroupWise Remote is done offline by the user in his or her remote mailbox, then later exchanged with his or her Master Mailbox at home. Communication is enabled through the Async Gateway and a modem connection.
This diagram of the message delivery between a user using GroupWise Remote and his or her Master Mailbox shows the GroupWise components involved in the process.
The GroupWise Remote user creates a message using the GroupWise Remote client.
The GroupWise Remote user initiates a connection to the Async Gateway in the recipient's GroupWise domain.
The Async Gateway in the sender's domain transfers the message through a configured modem and phone line connection to the receiving Async Gateway located in the recipient's domain.
The MTA delivers the message to the recipient's MTA if the recipient is located in a different domain, or to the POA if the recipient is located in the same domain as the Async Gateway.
The POA updates the sender's Master Mailbox and the recipient's mailbox.
The POA generates a Delivered status message and queues it to the MTA.
The MTA recipient's domain transfers the Delivered status to the Async Gateway in the recipient's domain.
The Async Gateway delivers the message to the GroupWise Remote user.
