NGWASYNC: Cannot open port xxx

Source:  GroupWise Async Gateway

Explanation:  A call to open the named port failed.

Possible Cause:  There might not be a device driver installed for that port

Action:  For the NetWare® Async Gateway, the aio.nlm and aiocomx.nlm drivers need to be installed. See Preparing Ports for the NetWare Async Gateway

Action:  For the NetWare Async Gateway, make sure that the Hardware Type, Board Number, and Port Number fields in the Port Definition dialog box correspond to a valid serial port, and that the driver for that port has been loaded. See Gathering I/O Port Driver Information for NetWare

Action:  For the Windows Async Gateway, if you are using some special hardware, ensure that it is installed and configured correctly.

Action:  For the Windows Async Gateway, if you are using the COM port, make sure that the serial port being used is listed in the Windows Device Manager.

Action:  For the Windows Async Gateway, check to see if the appropriate device driver for the modem has been installed.

To check the device driver configured for the modem:

  1. From your Windows desktop, right-click My Computer, click Properties, then select Device Manager.

  2. Select Modem to display the driver.

  3. Right-click the modem driver, then click Properties.

  4. Check the various tabs of the Modem Properties dialog box to make sure that the modem is correctly configured.
