Creating a New Modem Definition

  1. In ConsoleOne, browse to and select the Domain object where you created the Async Gateway.

  2. Right-click the Async Gateway object, then click Properties.

  3. Click Ports > Create, then click Modem > Create to display the Create Modem dialog box.

  4. Fill in the following fields:

    Modem Name: Specify the modem brand name and model in this field. The name is saved and displayed in the Choose Modem list.

    Initialization: See Creating a Modem Initialization String for detailed information.

    Dialing: Specify modem dialing commands, including any commands for tone or pulse dialing, dial pauses, user codes, or other required dialing commands.

    Suffix: Command data is usually not required in this field. It is only used for special devices or circumstances, such as a cellular phone connection.

    Answer: The command your modem uses to automatically answer incoming calls. The command includes the number of rings to allow before answering.

    No Answer: The command your modem uses to disable automatic call answering. The command is executed before the modem dials out to another number.

    Hang Up: The command your modem uses to hang up and reset itself

    Identity Modem: Do not fill in this field. It is reserved for future use.

    Character Pacing: The time interval between each character sent to the modem when the modem is in command mode. The number you enter represents 1/18 of one second. For example, if you enter 18, a 1-second pause is placed between characters. Specify 0 if the modem does not require a pause between characters.

    Escape Character: The ASCII character used to switch the modem from terminal mode to command mode.

    Baud Rate: The maximum baud rate the mode can use to send and receive messages. Click the down-arrow to display a drop-down list of baud rates.

    CCITT DSR: Do not fill in this field. It is reserved for future use.

  5. Click OK to save the modem definition.
