Novell Client Firewall 2.0

1.0 Introduction

This document provides a brief overview of the features related information for Novell^® Client Firewall (NCF). It also provides a brief overview of the known issues with this release.

NCF allows you to:

• Protect your system from unauthorized intruders
• Protect remote users, their machines and the private network from threats on the public Internet
• Monitor network security
• Monitor and control Internet usage
• Block Internet advertisements and pop-ups

No lengthy configuration is needed. NCF starts protecting your network as soon as it is installed.

• Windows Me

3.0 Known Issues

• If 'Handle is Invalid' message pops-up when you try to access Auto Update, Log Viewer, or Trash Can, check if the system has the minimum memory requirements, and then Restart NCF.
• If response is delayed while accessing some http:// sites, which redirect to https:// sites, use https:// explicitly while specifying the URL.
• Attachments Filter detects only attachments for E-mail clients supporting SMTP and POP3.
• If your system fails to communicate with the network (for example, ping or network login fails), check if this is NCF related. Verify if the NCF.exe is listed in the Process tab of Task Manager while the NCF icon is missing in the system tray. If so, an error might have occurred during NCF startup.

  Restart NCF to solve this problem.

• If your system runs short of hard disk space, clear the log database (op_data.mdb). You can do this in the Database Repair dialog box (Novell Client Firewall Log Viewer > File > Repair Database > Mark Database as "corrupt". On next OS startup delete file and create new option).

Issues Related to Windows NT

• While installing NCF, if you see messages titled 'Overwrite Protection' or 'Error Executing the Specified Program', note the path displayed in the error message and delete all files (in the directory) mentioned in the path.

  After that, restart the installation.

• If Auto-configuration of network settings fail, you have to manually add network or host address.
• In case Windows FTP client is not working in spite of an application rule being present, add a system rule similar to the existing application rule.

  For any other application facing similar problem, create a system rule.
