Initializing and Configuring Branch Office Appliance

This chapter describes how to initialize Novell® NterpriseTM Branch OfficeTM appliance. Initializing the appliance means taking your hardware and imaging the appliance with Nterprise Branch Office. When the imaging and configuration process is complete, the server appliance will function in your network as a file and print appliance.

WARNING:  Because Nterprise Branch Office is a server appliance, you should install the appliance software on dedicated hardware. If you have another network operating system on this hardware, it will be deleted. Also, if data exists on the hardware before you initialize it, it cannot be saved unless it is in the same directory structure that data will exist in after the appliance is configured. If this hardware was not an Nterprise Branch Office appliance previous to this install, you should consider saving any existing data to another server before starting the initialization process.

If this appliance will be used in conjunction with a central office network, make sure that you have completed the required central office setup before you initialize the hardware and run the Setup Wizard (See Preparing the Central Office ). Setting up the central office is especially important if users whose usernames reside in the central office LDAP tree will authenticate to the appliance using User Access Provisioner or if data on the appliance will be replicated to servers at the central office.

IMPORTANT:  If users do not already have simple passwords, they must log in through the Nterprise Branch Office Portal the first time so that their simple passwords are set to the same value as their existing passwords. See Assigning Simple Passwords for User Accounts .
