Managing Volumes, Folders, and Files

The main part of any storage appliance is managing and accessing data in folders and files. Novell® NterpriseTM Branch OfficeTM lets users access files from their workstations using standard protocols and methods such as Windows Explorer or Novell ClientTM for Windows, or by using Virtual Office. If users are accessing files using standard protocols, they authenticate to a folder on the network where their data resides. If users are accessing files through Virtual Office, they enter the appliance IP address in their browser using a secure HTTP session (https://appliance_ip_address) and authenticate to the appliance. They have access to the files and folders they have permission to access. Files can be copied, viewed, uploaded, downloaded, and deleted.

In addition to the options for end users, the appliance allows appliance administrators to access data using Nterprise Branch Office Web Administrator or Nterprise Branch Office Portal.

IMPORTANT:  In order to download files using Nterprise Branch Office Web Administrator, make sure that the Do Not Save Encrypted Pages to Disk check box is unchecked in Internet Explorer (located in Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Security).

File Access Control panel

In the File Access Control Panel, you can do the following:

User accounts can originate from four potential sources depending on the authentication options you are using. You can create them on the appliance, auto-provision them from existing users in your corporate eDirectoryTM tree using LDAP User Access Provisioner, import Windows NT users, or provide access to UNIX users (see Managing Nterprise Branch Office User Accounts).

IMPORTANT:  If users do not already have a simple password, they must log in through Virtual Office the first time so that their simple passwords are set to the same value as their existing passwords.

After users have accounts created and have been given access to the appliance, they can access the files stored on the appliance using any file access protocol or using Virtual Office.
