To download the U.S./Worldwide strong encryption module:

  1. Click Proceed to Download.
  2. Log in using your Novell Login credentials. If you don't have Novell Login credentials, create a new profile, then log in.
  3. Click View to read the Installation Instructions.
  4. Click Download next to the module you want to download.
  5. Select a directory on your computer to save the file to and click Save.

prerequisites/installation instructions for NICI AIX

This upgrade works with AIX 5L or later.

  1. Verify the filename was not changed during download. The filename for the file should be NOVLniu0.2.7.0.0. If it is something different, rename the file.
  2. Copy the NOVLniu0.2.7.0.0 file to a directory on the AIX host that you want to upgrade.
  3. Log in as user with root privileges on the AIX host.
  4. Check for a previous install of NICI on the host by typing: lslpp -l | grep NOVL
  5. If the following appears: NOVLniu0, some previous version of NICI is installed. You will have to remove NICI first then install NICI 2.7.0.
  6. Stop any service that uses NICI. For example, if you are stopping eDirectory, you would enter /etc/ndsd stop
  7. To remove NICI, enter: installp -ug NOVLniu0
    Note: NDSServ is also removed by default.
  8. Install NICI 2.7.0
    1. Change to the directory where you copied the NOVLniu0.2.7.0.0 file.
    2. Type installp -acgXd `pwd`/NOVLniu0.2.7.0.0 NOVLniu0
    3. Change to the directory where the eDirectory packages are located. Look for NDS.NDSserv*.
    4. Type installp -acgXd `pwd`/[packagename] NDS.NDSserv. For example, for eDirectory 8.7.3.2, you would type installp -acgXd `pwd`/NDS.NDSserv.8.7.3.2 NDS.NDSserv
  9. Restart any services that will use this version of NICI. For example, if you are starting eDirectory, you would enter /etc/ndsd start

prerequisites/installation instructions for NICI HP-UX

This upgrade works with HP-UX 11i.

  1. Copy the NOVLniu0.depot file to a directory on the HP-UX host that you want to upgrade.
  2. Log in as user with root privileges on the HP-UX host.
  3. Check for a previous install of NICI on the host by typing: swlist | grep NOVL
    If the following appears: NOVLniu0, some previous version of NICI is installed. You will have to remove NICI first then install NICI 2.7.0. Note: When you remove NICI, the user data is preserved.
  4. Stop all services that use NICI. For example, if you are stopping eDirectory, you would enter /sbin/init.d/ndsd stop
  5. To remove NICI, enter: swremove -x enforce_dependencies=false NOVLniu0
  6. To install NICI 2.7.0, enter: swinstall -s /path_to_depot/NOVLniu0.depot NOVLniu0
  7. Restart any services that will use this version of NICI. For example, if you are restarting eDirectory, you would enter /sbin/init.d/ndsd restart

prerequisites/installation instructions for NICI Linux

This upgrade works with Red Hat 7.x, 8.x, and Advanced Server 2.1, and SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9x.

  1. Verify the filename was not changed during download. The filename for the file should be nici-2.7.0-0.01.i386.rpm. If it is something different, rename the file.
  2. Copy the nici-2.7.0-0.01.i386.rpm to a directory on the Linux host that you want to upgrade.
  3. Log in as user with root privileges on the Linux host.
  4. Check for a previous install of NICI on the host by typing: rpm -qa | grep nici
  5. If a NICI version earlier than the latest version is displayed, you will need to remove NICI first, by doing the following:
    Enter: rpm -e [string returned by rpm -qa | grep nici] --nodeps
    For example, rpm -e nici-2.2.0-0.05 --nodeps
  6. After the earlier NICI version is removed, NICI 2.7.0 can be installed. To install/update NICI 2.7.0, enter: rpm -Uvh nici-2.7.0-0.01.i386.rpm
  7. You will need to restart any services that will use this version of NICI once it is installed. For example, if you are restarting eDirectory, you would enter /etc/init.d/ndsd restart

prerequisites/installation instructions for NICI Solaris

This upgrade works with Solaris 7, 8, and 9.

  1. Verify the filename was not changed during download. The filename for the file should be NOVLniu0-2.7.0.Z. If it is something different, rename the file.
  2. Copy the NOVLniu0-2.7.0.Z file to a directory on the Solaris host that you want to upgrade.
  3. Log in as user with root privileges on the Solaris host.
  4. Check for a previous install of NICI on the host by typing: pkginfo | grep NOVL
  5. If the following appears: NOVLniu0, some previous version of NICI is installed. You will have to remove NICI first then install NICI 2.7.0.
    Note: When you remove NICI, the user data is preserved. You may also get a message about package dependencies. Choose Yes to remove anyways.
  6. Stop any service that uses NICI. For example, if you are stopping eDirectory, you would enter /etc/init.d/ndsd stop
  7. To remove NICI, enter: pkgrm NOVLniu0
  8. To decompress the NICI file, enter: uncompress NOVLniu0-2.7.0.Z
  9. To install NICI 2.7.0, enter: pkgadd -d NOVLniu0-2.7.0
    Note: You will get a message about installing setuid and setgid programs. Choose Yes to install.
  10. Restart any services that will use this version of NICI. For example, if you are restarting eDirectory, you would enter /etc/init.d/ndsd restart

prerequisites/installation instructions for NICI NetWare

This upgrade works with NetWare 5.1, NetWare 6, or NetWare 6.5.

The nici_u0.exe file is a self-extracting file. You will need to decompress it in order to install this product on your NetWare 5.1, NetWare 6, or NetWare 6.5 server.

To decompress the files

  1. From the directory where you saved the nici_u0.exe file, type nici_u0.
  2. Save the decompressed files to a diskette or to a network directory accessible by the server.

To install the NICI module on the server

  1. Load NWCONFIG.
  2. Select Product Options.
  3. Select Install a Product Not Listed.
  4. Indicate where the self-extracted files will be installed from by pressing Enter for a diskette or F3 for a network directory.
  5. When the product description and Software License are displayed, you will be prompted to accept the License Agreement. If you accept the agreement, the files will be copied to appropriate destination directories on the server.
  6. When prompted that the installation was successful, press Enter.
  7. When prompted that the installation is complete, notify all users connected to the server to log out. Then restart the server.

prerequisites/installation instructions for NICI Windows

  1. Copy the wcniciu0.exe file to a directory on the Windows workstation/server that you want to upgrade.
  2. Double-click the wcniciu0.exe file to initiate the installation.
    An InstallShield will guide you through the installation.
