The kernel loads and the following message appears:
“Make sure that CD number 1 is in your drive.”
Tip: If you get an error message during the media installation indicating that a certain file couldn't be installed, skip that file and continue to the end. Then run the update again. During the reinstall, only the skipped packages will be installed.
You will need access to the original Novell Linux Desktop 9 CDs in order to complete the installation.
Note: If the CD isn’t autodetected, try
reinserting it. If autodetect continues to fail, select System > Administrator
Settings > Software > Patch CD Update.
The YaST Online Update dialog appears.
The Download and Installation log will track update progress.
Tip: If you see a patch installation error message at any time during
the update, click Skip Patch, complete the update, then repeat the update
process to install the skipped packages. Only the skipped packages will be
installed when the process is repeated.
Downloaded nld9-vmwarews5-vm.zip.
After you have downloaded the VMWare Workstation 5 Virtual Machine of Novell Linux Desktop 9, unzip the file (nld9-vmwarews5-vm.zip) to the folder on your Linux or Windows system where you keep your Virtual Machines. By default, this is "home/vmware" on Linux and "My Documents\My Virtual Machines" on Windows. When unzipping the file, make sure that you recreate the folders contained in the ZIP file.
After the file has been unzipped, start VMWare Workstation 5, open the Virtual Machine, then power it on. At this point, you will receive a message asking you whether you want to create a new identifier or keep the existing identifier. We strongly recommend that you keep the existing identifier. If you don't, you will need to reconfigure the network card within the Virtual Machine.
NOTE: In some circumstances the XWindows system will fail to initialize correctly within the Virtual Machine. If this happens you will see a text based console repeated four times on the screen. To fix this you will need to perform the following steps:
For more information on VMWare Workstation 5, see the VMWare Web site.
