4.5 Creating Point of Service Images

Before you can deploy Point of Service terminals, you must first create image files that contain the operating system and application files required to boot the terminals.

Novell Linux Point of Service provides image templates that can be customized and generated using the Image Builder tool. When you select the NLPOS Image Server during the Administration Server installation, the ImageBuilder utilities (scr and xscr) are installed on the Administration Server along with all the files and directories required to create Point of Service images.

To create the Point of Service images required to deploy your Point of Service terminals:

  1. Copy the image source files to your image building server.

For detailed instructions, see Copying the Novell Linux Point of Service CDs in the Novell Linux Point of Service 9 Administration Guide.

  2. Define the location of the image source files.

For detailed instructions, see Generating AdminServer.conf or Distribution.xml in the Novell Linux Point of Service 9 Administration Guide.

  3. Build the Point of Service image files.

For detailed instructions, see Building Images with the scr ImageBuilder Tool or Building Images with the xscr ImageBuilder Tool in the Novell Linux Point of Service 9 Administration Guide.

After you have created the images required for your Point of Service terminals, you must copy the images to the appropriate directories on the Administration Server so that the RSYNC service can transmit the images to the Branch Server. Proceed with Section 4.6, Copying the Client Image Files.
