Password Management and Samba Passwords

In NNLS 1.0, eDirectory users can change their own passwords by default.

If you have installed the NNLS distribution of Samba file services, be aware that the Samba password is stored separately from the eDirectory password in eDirectory.

If your eDirectory users have Samba accounts, they should change their passwords using Virtual Office to ensure that the eDirectory and Samba passwords are synchronized. Otherwise, changing the eDirectory password using another method doesn't automatically change the Samba password as well.

Users can change their eDirectory password and have their Samba password changed at the same time by completing the following steps:

  1. In a Web browser, launch Virtual Office by entering the following URL in the Address field:

    http://IP_or_DNS/vo

where IP_or_DNS is the IP address or full DNS name of the NNLS server.

  2. Log in to Virtual Office using the eDirectory username and password for the account being changed.

  3. Click the Padlock icon Padlock icon.

  4. Type the current eDirectory password.

  5. Retype the new eDirectory password to confirm it.

  6. Leave the Synchronize Samba Password option checked.

  7. Click OK.
