6.10 Monitor

The Monitor channel provides logging system statistics in iManager. Each Secure Logging Server object includes the Monitor tab as one of its Logging Server attributes.

The Monitor page provides two statistics pages: Server and System.

The Monitor Server page lists the total number of events logged over the current server uptime and the average number of events logged per second.

NOTE:The number of events logged per second is averaged over a three-second interval.

The Monitor System page lists the IP addresses and descriptions of the Platform Agents currently logging events to the current Secure Logging Server, the applications logging events to each agent, and the events logged by each agent. These statistics reflect events logged over the life of the server; not the server uptime.

For detailed information on all the options in the Secure Logging Server Monitor tab, see Section 4.2.4, Logging Server Statistics.

6.10.1 Monitor Channel Driver

The Monitor driver, lgdmonitor, is, essentially, a predefined notification filter; it filters events by Platform Agent and logging application. Event notification is provided through the Monitor tab in the Secure Logging Server object.

NOTE:Because the Monitor driver functions like a notification filter, all events processed by the Monitor driver are counted as notification events. This significantly impacts the statistics that Monitor provides for notification events.

6.10.2 Monitor Channel Object

The Monitor Channel object allows you to enable or disable the Monitor channel and set the refresh interval for the Monitor statistics in the Secure Logging Server object.

The following table provides a description of each Channel object attribute.

IMPORTANT:You must restart the logging server to effect any changes in Channel object configuration. For more information, see Section H.3, Secure Logging Server Startup Commands

Table 6-12 Monitor Channel Object Attributes

Write Interval

The number of seconds the Monitor driver waits to refresh the statistics in the Monitor pages in the Secure Logging Server object.

NOTE:The Server and System pages in the Secure Logging Server object’s Monitor tab also have a Refresh attribute that determines how often the Monitor statistics are refreshed. The Write Interval in the Monitor Channel object should be the same or higher than the Refresh values in the Secure Logging Server object. For more information on the Refresh attributes in the Secure Logging Server’s Monitor page, see Section 4.2.4, Logging Server Statistics.

Status

Allows you to enable or disable the Channel object. By default, all Channel objects are enabled. This means that the logging server loads the Channel object’s configuration in memory at startup.

The Channel object must be located in a supported Channel container for the logging server to use it. For more information on the logging server’s Channel Container property, see Logging Server Object Attributes .

If you select the Disabled option, you must restart the Secure Logging Server for the setting to become effective. Thereafter, the logging server cannot load the object’s configuration until you select Enabled.

For information on unloading the logging server, see Section H.3, Secure Logging Server Startup Commands.
