Supervising the Network has two purposes: to help you set up your network after completing the installation procedure, and to help you manage your network after you have installed or upgraded servers to NetWare® 4.11.
This manual is to be used by network supervisors responsible for maintaining all or part of a NetWare 4.11 network.
NOTE: To set up or maintain a network in the NetWare Enhanced Security configuration (the Class C2 evaluated configuration), you must supplement the information in this manual with the information in NetWare Enhanced Security Server, NetWare Enhanced Security Administration, Auditing the Network, and Security Features User Guide.
The checklist in the following section explains the process of planning and setting up a network, and refers you to the manual containing the information and instructions you need to complete that step in the process.
NOTE: In Novell® documentation, an asterisk denotes a trademarked name belonging to a third-party company. Novell trademarks are denoted with specific trademark symbols, such as TM.
To set up your NetWare 4.11 network, use the manuals in your NetWare 4.11 set in the order shown in the following checklist. (Chapter-only references refer to chapters within this manual.)
After setting up your network, use this manual to help you keep it updated and running efficiently. Use this manual to help you perform such routine tasks as managing your Novell Directory database and its associated objects, maintaining your netware file system, and setting up servers and keeping your network running efficiently. You can also use it as a reference for backing up and restoring network data, using optical storage devices to increase and manage your available disk space, and using the new NetWare DynaText* online documentation. To get an overview of how this manual can help you manage your network, review the tasks listed in the Table of Contents. This section explains the command syntax used in NetWare documentation. The following MAP example illustrates several syntax conventions: MAP [P | NP] [option] drive:= [drive:|path]
After typing the command line, press <Enter> to execute the command.
