IPv6 is a network layer protocol that resolves the inherent IPv4 problems and incorporates many enhancements. IPv6 solves the Internet scaling problem (addresses), provides a flexible transition mechanism, meets the needs of mobile users, and supports automatic configuration (plug-and-play).
