Time Management

If your server is not in sync, it could be due to one of the following:

• You do not have configured sources set to On even though the source is specified in the configured sources list.
• Your source server is IP only and your configured source is the IPX^TM server name. You need to specify the IP address or DNS long name in the configured source list.
• You have multiple NICs in the server and you are specifying an IP or NTP source. (This is a timing issue and doesn't occur in all multiple-NIC environments.)

  For environments with multiple NICs (such as NetWare^® routers and multiple-NIC cluster environments) that experience problems, insert the following at the end of your AUTOEXEC.NCF file:

  unload timesync

  load timesync

  This allows the TCP/IP stack to finish coming up, to bind and initialize to all the interfaces, and to then restart Timesync.

• Directory Tree Mode (default configuration): In order for Timesync to function in Directory tree mode, it uses SLP. In some mixed SLP/tree configurations, the secondary server doesn't find the Single/Reference server with the Timesync service via SLP.

  If you experience issues in your environment after having the Single/Reference and Secondary servers all contact the Same Directory Agent, set your configured sources to On and contact your Single, Reference, Primary, or NTP source via the IP address or DNS long name.
