Differences Between OnDemand Services 1.5 and ZENworks OnDemand Services 2
OnDemand Services 2 offers significant functionality enhancements, such as multi-type application support, administrator- or user-initiated application provisioning, and automated approval workflow. To become familiar with these enhancements and others, refer to the information in What Is ZENworks OnDemand Services? .
The following functionality has not been retained from OnDemand Services 1.5 to OnDemand Services 2:
Disk space, digital certificates, and directory classified packages
Credit card billing
Netscape browser support; OnDemand Services 2 only supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher.
In addition, OnDemand Services 2 includes significant changes in architecture from OnDemand Services 1.5. You can refer to Preparing for Installation to see many of the new software and hardware requirement changes that are a result of these architectural changes. Some of the major changes include:
OnDemand Services 2 is hosted through Novell Portal Services (NPS) 1.5, which means that the OnDemand Services interface is presented through NPS gadgets rather than Java Server pages (JSPs). OnDemand Services 2 does not support JSPs and modifications you made to your JSPs will not be carried over to the OnDemand Services gadgets.
OnDemand Services 1.5 had to be run on a NetWare® 5.1 server using Netscape Enterprise Web Server and WebSphere. Novell Portal Services 1.5 and the OnDemand Services 2 gadgets must be installed to a NetWare 6 or Windows 2000 server running an Apache or Microsoft IIS Web server and the Tomcat Web Application Server.
An OnDemand Services 1.5 Package object could contain one application only, but an OnDemand Services 2 Package object can contain multiple applications. For example, you can have a package that contains a Web application, a traditional desktop application, and a thin-client application. When a user purchases the package (or is assigned the package), he or she receives access to all packages.
