2.1 What’s New (OES SP1 NetWare and NetWare 6.5 SP4)

2.1.1 Archive Versioning Plug-In to iManager

For OES SP1, the Archive Versioning plug-in has been redesigned. To take advantage of the changes, you must upgrade from iManager 2.0.2 to iManager 2.5. For information, see Upgrading to iManager 2.5 in the Novell iManager 2.5 Administration Guide.

This release provides the following enhancements to the Archive Versioning plug-in to iManager 2.5:

  • Configure Archive Jobs: The Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager 2.5 has been redesigned to support job definition.

    • For each archive versioning job on a given server, specify all of its job parameters except filters in iManager. If filtering is desired, configure the filter directly in the sys:\arkManager\arkConfig.xml file on the archive server.
    • Required fields are annotated with an asterisk (*).
    • The Not Configured state supports conditions where the job definition contains missing or invalid settings. Problem settings are annotated with three asterisks (***) on a red background.
    • Warning messages are provided for archive paths, volumes, or job names that are currently in use.
  • Configure Default Job Settings: The Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager 2.5 has been redesigned to support definition of default job settings.

For a given server, specify all of its default job parameters, except for filtering parameters, in the Archive Versioning > Archive Server Properties Default Settings in iManager. If filtering is desired, configure the filter directly in the sys:\arkManager\arkConfig.xml file on the archive server.

  • Control Jobs: Start, schedule, or stop jobs in the Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager.

  • Modify Job Names: The Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager 2.5 allows you to rename jobs and to reuse job names.

    • Rename an archive job. When you rename a job, its job definition and archived data are associated with the new job name.
    • Reuse a job name that is not currently in use. For example, you can use the name of a deleted job or a purged deleted job when you create a new job.
  • Manage Deleted Jobs: The Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager 2.5 allows you to delete jobs, then purge or salvage deleted jobs. For information, see Section 11.9, Deleting a Job.

  • Clean Up User List for a Job: The Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager 2.5 allows you to clean up information in a job’s users list about past users of files on the source volume. For information, see Section 11.7, Cleaning Up the Job’s User List.

2.1.2 Archive and Version Services Components

The following enhancements were made to Archive and Version Services 2.0:

  • ArkConfig.xml: The <Now/> element, which was used to start a job immediately, is no longer available in the sys:\arkManager\arkConfig.xml file on the archive server. Use the Archive Versioning plug-in for iManager 2.5 to start, schedule, or stop jobs.

  • Archive Database: ArkManager now uses record level locking when file versions are accessed in the archive database. It avoids possible MySQL deadlocks and improves overall performance.

  • File Version Utility for Windows 2000/XP:

    • Restore a snapshot of directory content for a specified time.
    • Search for directory content that changed (created, modified, renamed, or deleted) during a specified time frame, then restore a snapshot of that content for a specified time.
