6.2 Determining Which Patch Procedures to Use

WARNING:Using the correct patch procedure will prevent errors in installing the correct software on your server.

Use the information in Table 6-2 to determine whether to use the procedures outlined in this chapter or whether you need to use other options.

Patch the server using procedures described in this chapter. See Choosing the Patch Method in This Chapter.

OES Linux server with only SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9 (no OES services or Novell bundled products installed)

YaST Online Update

Patch the server using the procedures specified in TID 10098329 “Patch Open Enterprise Server With YaST Online Update”.

OES Linux server with OES server types and optional Novell bundled products installed such as eDirectory installed and you have installed and are managing it with one of the following versions of Novell ZENworks® Linux Management product:

  • 6.62 or later

  • 7.0 IR1 or later

  • 7.2 or later

One of the following versions of ZENworks Linux Management:

  • 6.62 or later

  • 7.0 IR1 or later

  • 7.2 or later

For ZENwork 7 with IR1 or later procedures, use the “Package Management” procedures in the Novell ZENworks 7 Linux Management Administration Guide.

The procedures specified in this chapter and the procedures in ZENwork Linux Management 6.62, 7 or 7.2 product do not work in the same way.
