6.3 Choosing the Patch Method in This Chapter

Patch the server using one of these methods:

When to Use It

Using a Patch CD or ISO images

  • You want to update the server to only OES Support Pack 2 with no additional patches.

  • The connection to the Internet has low bandwidth or you want to apply the patches offline.

  • You want to perform the update quickly.

  • Disk space on the server is limited.

NOTE:Patching the server from a Patch CD or ISO images includes only the updates from a specific Support Pack.

If you want to update the server to all the latest patches, you must use one of the methods that gets patches from the OES Update channel.

From the OES Channel using the Red Carpet command line (rug).

  • You want to use the command line interface.

  • You want to update the server with OES Support Pack 2 plus all the latest patches.

  • The server has a working Internet connection and you want to apply the patches while online.

  • You want to use the graphical user interface (GUI).

  • You want to update the server with OES Support Pack 2 plus all the latest patches.
