14.5 Files that initially reside only on the secondary volume can end up as directories on the primary volume

If a file and its associated directories in a DST volume initially reside only on the secondary volume, the file can show up as a directory when DST attempts to move from the secondary to the primary location, such as for a policy move. The original file remains intact on the shadow volume, but a directory with the same name is created on the primary. This causes the affected file to not be accessible for clients.

A patch that prevents this problem from happening is available in the OES 2 SP2 and OES 2 SP3 May 2011 Scheduled Maintenance patches.

For information about getting a script that can help find problem directories, remove them, and move the file from the shadow volume to the primary volume, see Technical Information Document 7008532: Files initially only residing on the Shadow volume can end up as directories on the Primary volume in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.
