Novell NetWare Migration Wizard 7.0 Readme January, 2004 ***************Important*************** If you have compressed files and you are planning to use the NetWare Migration Wizard 7.0 or NetWare Server Consolidation Utility 2.6 to copy these files to an NSS volume on a server running NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 1, you must first apply the NSS patch included in the n65comn1.exe file or apply NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 1.1. This patch fixes an issue with the compression code in the NSS file system that causes compressed files to become corrupted when copied to a NetWare 6.5 SP1 server via the SMS APIs. FAILURE TO APPLY THIS PATCH WILL RESULT IN DATA LOSS DURING THE MIGRATION! The NSS patch is necessary only if you are migrating compressed data to a NetWare 6.5 SP1 NSS Compressed volume. It is not needed for any other version of NetWare, including the shipping version of NetWare 6.5. For additional information and to obtain the patch, see TID #2967857 in the Novell Knowledgebase at http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.jsp. You can find NetWare 6.5 Support Pack 1.1 on the Novell Product Updates page at http://support.novell.com/filefinder/18197. ************************************** 1.0 Overview 2.0 Known Issues 3.0 Legal Information ---------------------------------------------------------------- 1.0 Overview ---------------------------------------------------------------- These notes describe some known issues that have not been resolved for this release of the NetWare Migration Wizard 7.0 software. The Novell NetWare Migration Wizard Utility helps you copy data from one server to another. For information on installing and running the Migration Wizard Utility, see the "Novell NetWare Migration Wizard 7.0 Administration Guide" at http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/migwiz70. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2.0 Known Issues ---------------------------------------------------------------- 2.1 Use Latest Support Packs It is highly recommended that you update to the latest support packs on both the source and destination servers. 2.2 Database Can't Be Created Errors on NT 4.0 Workstations If you see a "Database Project Can't Be Created" error when running the Migration Wizard Utility on a Windows NT 4.0 workstation, you must install the Microsoft Jet database drivers. To acquire the Jet Database drivers, search the donwload.microsoft.com Web site fo rthe Jet 4.0 Service Pack 3 Update. 2.3 Avoid Extended Character Passwords We recommend not using an Admin user with an extended character password to perform the migration using the Migration Wizard Utility. 2.4 Re-Installing the Migration Wizard Utility in Another Language To re-install the Migration Wizard Utility in a different language than it was originally installed in, you must uninstall the utility in the first language, then re-install it using the new language. 2.5 Verify IP Addresses After the Migration Completes After completing a post-migration installation of products on your server, run the NetWare Remote Manager utility by pointing your browser to the URL of the server you want to manage by typing the following in the address (URL) field:http://server's_TCP/IP_address:8008For example:http://137.65.123.11:8008The default alternate port number is 8008. If you have changed this value on the Configuration page, make sure you specify the same value for the port number here. Under the Manage Server heading in the left frame of the NetWare Remote Manager browser window, click the IP Address Management link and verify that all installed products are assigned the correct IP address. 2.6 CIFS.CFG is Modified by the Migration Wizard The first step of the eDirectory step-by-step migration modifies the server name in hosts, hostname, snmp.cfg, and cifs.cfg. The Migration Wizard documentation mentions only hosts, hostname, and snmp.cfg. It does not state that cifs.cfg is also modified. 2.7 Installation Quits After Extracting There are some known issues with Java and certain video cards that cause the Migration Wizard installation to quit after extracting. If you encounter this issue, update your graphics card drivers to the latest version, or disable the hardware acceleration for your graphics card. 2.8 CCS_pbeDecrypt Error When Migrating From NetWare 5.0 When performing a migration from NetWare 5.0, you might receive a CCS_pbeDecrypt error on the source server console when attempting to backup either the source server trustees or the NDS database. If this occurs, make sure that the latest support pack is installed on the NetWare 5.0 server and do the following: 1. At the NetWare 5.0 source server console, enter Down. 2. At the DOS prompt, enter copy c:\nwserver\expxeng.xlm c:\nwserver\novxeng.xlm. 3. Enter copy c:\nwserver\domxeng.xlm c:\nwserver\novxeng.xlm. NOTE: This may fail because domxeng.xlm is not present. This is not a problem. If you used a directory other than nwserver to store the server files, substitute that directory for nwserver in steps 2 and 3. 4. Restart the NetWare 5.0 server. 2.9 Disable File Caching on the Novell Client You should disable file caching on the Novell Client to prevent erroneous locked file errors from being returned. These errors cause the migration process to stop. Specifically, the HOSTS, HOSTNAME, and AUTOEXEC.NCF files might appear to be locked. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 3.0 Legal Information ---------------------------------------------------------------- Disclaimer, Patents, Copyright, and Export Notice Novell, Inc. makes no representations or warranties with respect to the contents or use of this documentation, and specifically disclaims any express or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose.
