Installation Instructions

The Novell^® Sentinel^®6.1 Rapid Deployment (RD) download file includes an all-in-one single machine installation package. This package installs the Novell Sentinel6.1 Rapid Deployment server, Database server, Communication server, Correlation Engine, Advisor data snapshot, and Data Access Services (DAS). The client applications and Collector Managers can either be launched through WebStart after the server installation or downloaded and installed onto a local machine.

The production version of Novell Sentinel6.1 Rapid Deployment is available for 64-bit architectures. This is a 32-bit version that is intended for demo purposes only.

The Sentinel 6.1 RD installer installs the following components onto a single machine:

Components	Description
Database	Installs Sentinel PostgreSQL database and populates it with Sentinel database objects (such as tables, views, and stored procedures) into a database instance.
Data Access Server (DAS)	Installs components that communicate with the Sentinel database.
Correlation Engine	Installs the Correlation engine.
Advisor	Installs components related to the Advisor data subscription service. A subscription is required to receive updates.
Collector Manager	Installs the Collector Manager, which handles connections to event sources, data parsing, mapping, and so on. Additional Collector Managers can be installed for scalability or to access Windows servers. The Sentinel 6.1 RD Web interface provides a Collector Manager installer download.

End user and administrative functionality can be accessed by WebStart or by installing the following client applications:

Components	Description
Sentinel Control Center	Installs the main console for security or compliance analysts.
Sentinel Data Manager (SDM)	Installs SDM, which is used for manual database management activities.
Solution Designer	Installs Solution Designer, which creates solution packs with Sentinel content organized into controls.
Collector Builder	Installs Collector Builder, which can be used to modify legacy Sentinel Collectors. Collector Builder is supported only on Windows environment.

downloading the Sentinel 6.1 RD 32-bit demo package

On the Novell Software Downloads page, click Server Software, then click the links of the file as desired.
Follow the on-screen prompts to download the file to a directory on your machine.

For information about installing the Sentinel 6.1 RD on your Linux machine, see Installing Sentinel 6.1 RD. The installation instructions for the 32-bit version are the same as the instructions for the official 64-bit version in the documentation, with several exceptions:

the file name sentinel6_rd_x86-64.tar.gz in the documentation should be changed to sentinel6_rd_x86.tar.gz.
the directory name sentinel6_rd_x86-64 in the documentation should be changed to sentinel6_rd_x86
the system requirements and performance information in the documentation refer to the production version of the product, not this demo version

known issues

For a list of known issues see the Sentinel 6.1 RD Readme on the Novell Sentinel 6.1 RD Documentation Web site. In addition, the demo system is not expected to achieve the same scalability or performance results as the production system.
