Download and Installation

software installation instructions

This product is provided "as is" and is intended for evaluation with no technical support provided. Do not run this demo system in a production environment.

  1. Downloaded ISSLE-demo.zip.

  2. After you download the VMware Workstation 5 Virtual Machine, unzip the file (ISSLE-demo.zip) to the folder on your Linux or Windows* system where you keep your virtual machines.

By default, this is home/vmware on Linux and My Documents\My Virtual Machines on Windows.

  3. After the file has been unzipped, start VMware Workstation 5 or VMware Player, open the virtual machine, then power it on.

  4. You will be prompted to create a new identifier or keep the existing identifier. Keep the existing
identifier. If you don't, you must reconfigure the network card within the virtual machine.

  5. Log in as root with password issle.

You are presented with the ISSLE configuration module.

  6. Complete the two configuration screens, including changing your root password, then click End.

This will initiate the automatic configuration of your system.

  7. At the end of the installation, log in as either root or the database instance owner, db2inst1, and use the document on your desktop called "ISSLE Exploration" to discover the full features of the database and web application software on the system.

NOTE: In some circumstances the XWindows system fails to initialize correctly within the virtual machine. If this happens, you see a text-based console repeated four times on the screen. To fix this, complete the following steps:

    1. Log in as root (password is root).
    2. Change to runlevel 3 by typing init 3, then press Enter.
    3. Reset the XServer by typing sax2 -r, then press Enter.
    4. When the configuration screen prompts you to accept the configuration or change it, and then press Return.
    5. In the text-based console, start the XWindows system by typing init 5, or reboot the system to put you back into XWindows.

If you are having display problems after installing the VMware image, you will need to install VMware tools.

For more information on VMware Workstation 5, see the VMware Web site.
