This chapter provides information on how to access and use the Velocity management server's Web management interface to configure and manage your content distribution network.
In order to use the Velocity Web management interface, you need the following:
Once the Velocity management server has been configured with an IP address, subnet mask, gateway server, and DNS server, you can access the browser-based management tool and administer content network services from any client workstation that can communicate with the server over IP.
To access the browser-based management tool, complete the following steps:
Start a Web browser on your client workstation.
Point the browser to the URL of the Velocity management server you want to access.
The URL is the IP address of the Linux 7.0 server where you have already installed the System Controller and Content Controller management software.
At the Login page (see Figure 1 below), enter the user name and password for the Super Administrator user you defined during the System Controller installation.

As you make changes to configuration settings in the management tool, the changes are stored in a memory buffer. As you enter a service or other configuration management panel or page, the changes you make and confirm prior to leaving the panel or box are retained. Changes you cancel in the panel or box are discarded.
For example, if you are defining a forward proxy service within the and decide to change some of the Advanced Options settings, you would open the Advanced Options page by clicking its associated button.
If you change some of the field values and then change your mind, you can cancel out of the Advanced Options page using the following option:
Return to (2.x) or Cancel (3.x): This returns you to the previous page without saving the changes you just made.
The other configurations set for the forward service are unaffected by canceling out of the Advanced Options panel.
Continuing with the example, if you want to save the settings in the Forward Service panel, you would click the following option:
OK and Return to ... (2.x) or OK (3.x): This would save any changes made to the settings on the current page, and return you to the previous page.
At this point, the forward service you have defined will be stored in the aforementioned memory buffer and three new buttons will appear at the bottom of the configuration manager panel:
Apply Changes Now (2.x) or Apply Changes (3.x): This immediately applies all of the changes made in the Configuration Manager.
Schedule Update (2.x) or Schedule Changes (3.x): This lets you schedule a specific date and time when the changes you have specified will be applied.
Cancel Changes: This cancels all of the changes made in the Configuration Manager.
If desired, you can make changes to multiple services and settings and wait to apply them all at once.
WARNING: Changes are only stored in a buffer in memory until they are explicitly applied. Logging out or closing the browser prior to applying changes effectively cancels all changes made since you last entered the configuration manager (or since you explicitly applied your changes).
Once you either apply or cancel your changes, the action cannot be undone.
Click the Help link on any page in the management tool's user interface to open the online documentation to the help topic for that specific page. The documentation will open in a separate browser window.
To navigate through the documentation, click the book titles in the table of contents. You can also use the Index and Search tabs to look for specific information.
NOTE: The Management Interface Help provides page descriptions and field definitions. For more detailed information, such as product overviews for the Velocity management suite components and step-by-step instructions on how to set up and manage your complete content network, see the planning and deployment guides in the online documentation.
