ZENworks for Desktops 3.2 Support Pack 2 March 2003 Overview The information in this Readme file pertains to Novell ZENworks for Desktops (ZfD) 3.2 Support Pack (SP) 2. This Support Pack contains updates for all components contained in the ZENworks for Desktops product only. If the Support Pack file was downloaded, it must be extracted at the root of the drive because it contains directory paths that could exceed the DOS limits. The purpose of this Support Pack is to provide a bundle of fixes that have all been tested together. These files have undergone component testing, core OS testing, and integration testing with other Novell products. This Support Pack includes all fixes from the previous ZfD 3.2 Support Packs; therefore, you do not need to install ZfD 3.2 SP1 before installing this Support Pack. Do not install individual files from the Support Pack. Install the NetWare Support Pack before installing other Novell product support packs like GroupWise and ZENworks for Servers. These Support Packs are included with the Consolidated Support Pack, or they can be downloaded individually from http://support.novell.com/tools/csp. As a general rule, when you update ZfD 3.2 using the Consolidated Support Pack, you should update the files on the ZfD 3.2 server with ZfD Support Pack files prior to updating the workstation with Novell Client Support Pack files. If a new version of the Novell Client is released outside of a Consolidated Support Pack before a new ZfD 3.x Support Pack is released, you need to make sure that the ZfD Server is properly updated with the new Client files before you update the workstations with the new Client. The process for performing an update in this scenario is explained in TID 10060646 in the Knowledgebase at the Support Connection Web site (http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.htm). For information on the latest Consolidated Support Pack issues, see TID 10077724 at the Support Connection Web site (http://support.novell.com/search/kb_index.htm). To order the Support Pack CD, go to http://support.novell.com/tools/csp/orderinfo.htm. The SP2 NIS Installation program checks the existing ZfD 3.2 installation on a server to verify which components are installed there. Only those components that were previously installed are updated by the ZfD 3.2 SP2 Installation program. If you want to add other ZfD 3.2 components, you must run the ZfD 3.2 installation program and add these components prior to updating with ZfD 3.2 SP2. Make sure that you understand the software prerequisites for using this product. This information is displayed in one of the initial installation dialog boxes. You can also find it in the prereq.txt file located in the zenworks\ni\license\\ folder of the download package. 1.1 Preparing Windows NT/2000 Servers for the SP2 Installation Make sure that ConsoleOne is not running when you install this product. Before you install ZfD 3.2 SP2 on a Windows NT or Windows 2000 server, make sure that you shut down any ZENworks services that might already be running, including Inventory, Workstation Import, Workstation Removal and Imaging Service. Double-click the NT Services icon in the Windows Control Panel to open the services console and to verify whether Workstation Import and Workstation Removal services are running. You can shut down the services at the console. Double-click the NDS Services icon in the Windows Control Panel to open the services console and to verify whether ImgServ and ZENImgDS are running. You can shut down these services at the console. You can right-click the Inventory Server icon in the System tray > click Exit to stop the Inventory service. 1.2 Preparing NetWare Servers for the SP2 Installation If you will be installing ZfD 3.2 SP2 on a NetWare server, it will be necessary to unload java.nlm (at the Server Console, type java -exit). Make sure you do this when Java is not being used by another process and that the proper Java components have already been installed. You should also make sure that ConsoleOne is not running when you install this product. 1.3 Preparing Workstations for the SP2 Installation In order to obtain all of fixes required in the Novell Client for ZfD 3.2 SP2 interoperability, you must upgrade to the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000/XP 4.83 SP2 or to the Novell Client for Windows 9x 3.32 SP2. The files can be downloaded from Consolidated Support Pack 9. 1.4 Preparing for ZfD 3.2 SP2 Workstation Inventory Installation Before you install the Workstation Inventory component of ZfD 3.2 SP2, make sure you do the following: - Stop the inventory services. - Log in to the server where the database is installed and stop the database. 1.5 Running the ZfD 3.2 SP2 Installation Program To install ZfD 3.2 SP2 files to the server or servers you need to upgrade, run install.exe from the directory where you downloaded ZfD 3.2 SP2 and follow the prompts. IMPORTANT: Do not install individual files from ZfD 3.2 Support Pack 1 or consolidate the files from this support pack with files from ZfD 3.2 shipping product to expedite a single installation session. This overlay method is not supported. ZfD 3.2 must be completely installed as shipped (or with SP1 applied), followed by the installation of ZfD 3.2 SP2. 1.6 Top-Down Deployment of Inventory Installation Always begin the installation at the topmost level server and proceed with the next lower-level servers. For example, in an Inventory setup with a Root Server and a Leaf Server, complete the Inventory installation at the Root Server, and then run the installation for the Leaf Server. 2.0 Known Issues For a list of installation issues and other known issues and changes since the last Support Pack, see zfd32_iss.txt located at the root of the Support Pack. 3.0 Documentation In addition to this Readme file, the following sources provide additional information about the Support Pack: - For more information on the latest ZfD 3.2 Support Pack issues since the Support Pack 1 was released, see TID 10071863. - For updated ZfD 3.2 product documentation (including Support Pack updates) see http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/zdfs/index.html (http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/zdfs/index.html). 4.0 Documentation Conventions In this documentation, a greater-than symbol (>) is used to separate actions within a step and items in a cross-reference path. 5.0 Legal Notices Novell, Inc. makes no representations or warranties with respect to the contents or use of this documentation, and specifically disclaims any express or implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose.
