"Kernel Panic" Error When Booting a Toshiba Laptop

Explanation:  A compatibility problem exists between the Toshiba Satellite 2800-S201 laptop and the Linux kernel used by ZfD Imaging 3.2. The problem may be with the BIOS version in the PC. Although not reported, the problem may exist with other machines using a similar BIOS.

This problem only appears when the Linux kernel is started through a PXE session. Notebooks that do not have a built in network adapter cannot boot PXE and will not see the problem.

On these laptops, the Linux kernel will issue a "kernel panic" error message and halt the system. The error message that will appear on the workstation is: "Unable to handle kernel paging request at virtual address c4801000....Kernel panic: Attempted to kill init!"

Action:  Disable the PXE boot option in the BIOS options of the laptop and instead use imaging boot diskettes, an imaging bootable CD or install a Zen imaging (Linux) partition carry out imaging operations on the laptop.
