The information in this Readme file pertains to the Novell® ZENworks® for Desktops 4.0.1 Update for Novell NetWare® 6.5 (zfd401_nw65.exe). Because the functionality of ZENworks for Desktops 4 Support Pack 1b is nearly identical to ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1, the information in this document is relevant for both versions.
As it becomes available, other updated information will be included at the ZENworks for Desktops 4.x Documentation Web site.
For information on the issues corrected in ZENworks for Desktops 4.x since the original version was released, including the update for NetWare 6.5, see TID 10077083.
When running ConsoleOne from a NetWare 6.5 server to administer DeFrame, your Windows workstation must have Novell Client 4.9 (or later) installed. Otherwise, the Activate DeFrame functionality in the DeFrame snapin can cause ConsoleOne to shut down. To download the latest Novell Client, see the Novell Product Downloads site.
The following ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 environments have been tested for the purpose of this update. Other configurations have not been tested.
NOTE: The installation of ZENworks Middle Tier Server software on a NetWare 6.5 server is not supported.
The ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 Update for Novell NetWare 6.5 does not support Novell ConsoleOne® 1.3.6. Many features in NetWare 6.5 require ConsoleOne 1.3.6; however, you must administer ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 with ConsoleOne 1.3.5. You can install ConsoleOne 1.3.5 on a local workstation or on any accessible network server where Novell eDirectoryTM is installed. The two versions of ConsoleOne can coexist without a problem.
The ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 Update for Novell NetWare 6.5 (zfd401_nw65.exe) is available for download from the ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 Product Update page.
Zfd401_nw65.exe, a self-extracting, compressed file, includes the file updates for ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1. When this file is extracted to the local drive of a Windows workstation or to a network server volume, three updated files will be located in a directory structure similar to the workstation or server path where you need to copy them.
NOTE: We recommend that you rename existing versions of these files before you copy updated versions.
The sections below, 3.1 Updating a Windows 2000 SP3 Middle Tier Server, 3.2 Updating a NetWare 6 SP3 Middle Tier Server, and 3.3 Updating ZENworks Workstations, provide the steps you will need to install the updates.
If you are using a Windows 2000 SP3 Middle Tier Server with a NetWare 6.5 ZENworks Server, the Middle Tier Server crashes when you down the NetWare 6.5 ZENworks Server. Use the following steps to update the Middle Tier Server to address this issue:
If you have not already done so, extract the zfd401_nw65.exe file to the local drive of a Windows workstation or to a network server volume.
Copy the ndmndpnt.sys file from the zfd401_nw65\system32\drivers\novell directory to the following location on the Windows 2000 Server:
\winnt\system32\drivers\novell\ndmndpnt.sys
Restart the Windows 2000 SP3 server.
If you are using a NetWare 6 SP3 Middle Tier Server with a NetWare 6.5 ZENworks Server, the Middle Tier Server abends when you down the NetWare 6.5 ZENworks Server. Use the following steps to update the Middle Tier Server to address this issue:
If you have not already done so, extract the zfd401_nw65.exe file to the local drive of a Windows workstation or to a network server volume.
Copy the dmndap.nlm file from the zfd401_nw65\sys\xtier directory to the following location on the NetWare 6 SP3 server:
sys:\xtier\dmndap.nlm
Restart the NetWare 6 SP3 server.
If you install the Virtual Office feature available in NetWare 6.5, it will not work on Windows workstation where NetIdentity files have been installed from the Novell Client CD or by the ZENworks Desktop Management Agent. Use the following steps to update all ZENworks workstations, including Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows NT4, or Windows 98 SE:
If you have not already done so, extract the zfd401_nw65.exe file to the local drive of a Windows workstation or to a network server volume.
Copy the rpawinet.dll file from the zfd401_nw65 directory to the appropriate location on the Windows workstation.
NOTE: We recommend that you deploy this file to your workstations by using a Simple Application object distributed by the Novell Application LauncherTM.
For Windows 98 SE workstations, copy the file to the following location:
windows\system\rpawinet.dll
For Windows 2000/NT4 workstations, copy the file to the following location:
winnt\system32\rpawinet.dll
For Windows XP workstations, copy the file to the following location:
windows\system32\rpawinet.dll
If the Workstation Inventory component or the Wake-On-LAN feature of the Remote Management component of ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 fails to start after installing on a NetWare 6.5 server, you need to adjust the autoexec.ncf file.
If Remote Wake-On-LAN feature does not start, add the following line to autoexec.ncf after the zfdstart.ncf entry:
sys:\system\startwol
If the Workstation Inventory component does not start, add the following line to autoexec.ncf after the zfdstart.ncf entry:
sys:\system\zwsstart
If you install Novell iPrint on a NetWare 6.5 server and subsequently install ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1, the ZENworks iPrint policy will not work correctly. The reason for this issue is that the iprint/ipp directory for nipp.exe changed in NetWare 6.5 from login\ippdocs to apache2\htdocs\ippdocs.
Because nipp.exe still needs to be extracted for the policy distribution, you need to configure the policy to install and run from the apache2\htdocs\ippdocs directory.
If you upgrade a NetWare Server from version 6 SP3 to version 6.5, workstations with ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 installed and the Workstation Scheduler running fail to trigger a scan to the ZENworks Server.
To work around this problem, user workstations must be rebooted to trigger the Workstation Scheduler.
In order for DeFrameTM contextless login to work on a DeFrame terminal server that has the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000/XP version 4.9 installed, you must disable the Novell Client's NMASTM Authentication setting. The NMAS Authentication setting is enabled by default when you install the Novell Client. To disable NMAS authentication:
At the DeFrame terminal server, right-click the N icon in the system tray, then click Novell Client Properties.
In the Advanced Login tab, deselect the NMAS Authentication check box.
Click OK to save your changes.
If you use IP Address Management to change the IP address of the NetWare 6.5 server where ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 Workstation Inventory is installed, the following functionality will not work:
Use the following steps to resolve this issue:
If the Inventory database is running on Sybase:
Edit sys:\system\mgmtdbs.ncf to change the IP address of the -n parameter to the new IP address.
In ConsoleOne, right-click the database object.
Restart the Sybase Inventory database.
Restart the Inventory services.
If the scan data is rolled up to this Inventory server:
Change the IP address of the destination Inventory server and the proxy server (if cofigured) in the Roll-Up policy of the associated lower-level Inventory servers to the new IP address.
For information on how to change the IP address in the Roll-Up policy , see Configuring the Roll-Up Policy in the ZENworks for Desktops 4.0.1 Administration Guide.
Restart the Inventory services on the associated lower-level Inventory servers.
