Setting Up Rogue Process Management on Windows NT 4.0 Workstations

Because the Windows NT 4.0 API used by Application Launcher for rogue process management does not provide the same functionality as the Windows 98/2000/XP API (see How Rogue Process Management Works), you must set up rogue process management differently on Windows NT 4.0 workstations than you do on Windows 98/2000/XP workstation.

To set up rogue process management on a Windows NT 4.0 workstation:

  1. Make sure the psapi.dll resides in the c:\winnt\system32 directory on the Windows NT 4.0 workstation.

If necessary, you can copy the file from the following directory on the ZENworks for Desktops Program CD or the ZENworks 6 Desktop Management Program CD:

    zenworks\products\rminv\server\zws\jars\bin

  2. Follow the instructions in Setting Up Rogue Process Management on Windows 98 and Windows 2000/XP Workstations to configure the registry on the Windows NT 4.0 workstation. When doing so, use the following guidelines:

    • Set the Default Action value for the Process Management key to 1 (terminate rogue processes).
    • In the exceptions list, define all applications started by Application Launcher.
