4.0 Installing the ZENworks Server

The Novell ZENworks 11 installation media includes the following products:

  • ZENworks 11 Configuration Management

  • ZENworks 11 Asset Management

  • ZENworks 11 Endpoint Security Management

  • ZENworks 11 Patch Management

  • Asset Inventory for UNIX/Linux

All six products are always installed. You activate a product by supplying a valid product license during the installation or after the installation (through the ZENworks management console). If you do not have a valid license for a product, you can evaluate the product for 60 days. You can start the evaluation period during installation or after the installation.

Configuration Management, Asset Management, Patch Management and Endpoint Security Management can be used together or independently. ZENworks 11 Asset Inventory for UNIX/Linux requires Configuration Management or Asset Management.

Perform the tasks in the following sections to install the ZENworks 11 software:


  • As with any product, if you are testing or reviewing ZENworks 11 , we recommend that you deploy the product in a non-production environment.

  • Before installing ZENworks server on a Windows device, you must run the Windows Update on the device to ensure that all the available updates are installed on the device. Subsequently, disable the Windows Update to ensure that there are no further updates on the device when ZENworks server is installed on the device.
