2.2 How To Obtain Support Pack 2

ZENworks 6.5 SP2 is included in the Novell Consolidated Support Pack 12 (CSP12) available at the Consolidated Support Pack Web site. This download site has the benefit of including the latest support packs you may need for various Novell products.

For information on the latest Consolidated Support Pack issues, see TID 10094148 in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.

SP2 can also be downloaded independently from TID 10093356 in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.

2.3 What's New in Support Pack 2

ZENworks 6.5 SP2 Server Management does not contain any new features or enhancements, only bug fixes, except for the following enhancements:

  • Policy and Distribution Services: A check box has been added (Overwrite Existing Target Folder Object Attributes) in the Desktop Application Distribution Wizard that causes existing target folder objects to be overwritten with the relevant content of the source folder objects, meaning all previous folder associations for the application are replaced by the new folder associations. This is the default function in ZENworks 6.5 SP1 and earlier for how folder objects are handled. In ZENworks 6.5 SP2, to retain previous folder associations while adding new folder associations, deselect this option.

  • Server Inventory: You can now set up an Oracle9i Inventory database on a UNIX* server.

For details on these enhancements, see the "What's New" section for SP2 in the ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Installation Guide on the Novell documentation Web site.

For a brief listing of what else is new between SP2 and the initial realease of ZENworks 6.5 Server Management, see the "What's New" section in the ZENworks 6.5 SP1 Server Management Readme.

Each of the Server Software Packages (files with the .cpk extension) included in this support pack contains software updates for a group of ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 components as defined below.

Installation of a software package requires that the ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 component to be updated be present on the server. For example, if you are updating the Inventory Agent using zsm65sp2_invagnt.cpk, the software package fails if it does not find the ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 Inventory Agent on the server.

The software packages contained in the support pack update the following ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 components:

  • zsm65sp2_invagnt.cpk:
Contains the Inventory Agent bug fixes for SP2.

  • zsm65sp2_remmgmt.cpk:
Contains the Remote Management bug fixes for SP2.

  • zsm652_polydist.cpk:
Contains the Policy and Distribution Services bug fixes and enhancements for SP2.

2.4.3 Other Files

For Remote Management only, SP2 contains the following files in addition to the software packages:

  • The Standalone Package Processor for installing the software packages:

    remstandalonepacpro.zip

This is provided as an option for installing the software packages manually per server, rather than using Tiered Electronic Distribution to distribute them. The Standalone Package Processor is required where Policy and Distribution Services agents are not running for both NetWare® and Windows* servers. However, it can be used on servers where Policy and Distribution Services agents are running.

  • Batch/NCF files used to start the Standalone Package Processor:

    • Remstandalonepacpro.zip:

zsm651_remmgmt.ncf, which is used to install the support pack for the Remote Management Agent on NetWare servers.

zsm651_remmgmt.bat, which is used to install the support pack for the Remote Management Agent on Windows servers.

You will need to open zsm651_remmgmt.bat and zsm651_remmgmt.ncf in a text editor and rename any occurrences of zsm651_remmgmt.cpk to zsm65sp2_remmgmt.cpk.

To manually install the Remote Management Agent .cpk file, see the updated ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Installation Guide available on the Novell documentation Web site.

3.0 Installing the Support Pack

Zen65sp2.exe and zen65sp2compcd.exe must be extracted near the root of the drive, because they contain directory paths that could exceed the DOS limits. The default extraction path is c:\temp if you double-click an EXE download file. If you right-click or drag an EXE file to unzip it, the download is unzipped where you specify. For the downloaded directory structures, see 2.4 Support Pack Content.

For detailed support pack installation instructions, see ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Support Pack 2 in the updated ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Installation Guide.

3.1 Upgrade Prerequisites

Be sure to fulfill these prerequisites before upgrading ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 Server Management to SP2:

  • Minimum Requirements: Your target servers and installation workstation must meet the minimum requirements as stated in Installation Machine and Management Workstation Requirements in the updated ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Installation Guide.

  • Novell iManager (optional): Requires iManager 2.0.2, 2.5, or later installed on at least one NetWare, Windows, Linux*, or Solaris* server with the ZENworks 6.5 Policy and Distribution Services plug-ins. However, installing the ZENworks plug-ins to iManager 2.5 on Solaris is not supported.

3.2 Upgrade Procedures

You can upgrade ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 Server Management to SP2 in the following ways:

  • SP2 Upgrade Wizard: You can upgrade all ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 Policy-Enabled Server Management components using the upgrade wizard contained in the SP2 download. Run winsetup.exe to access the installation menus.

(Optional) If you have iManager 2.0.2/2.5 installed, and you are running the SP2 upgrade wizard, select the following menu options to install the updated iManager plug-ins: Server Management > Web-Based Management Components.

  • Linux/Solaris Script: Use an Xterm window to run the text-based installation script that is provided in the SP2 download. Run:

    Download_path\ZSM\ZfS\TedPol\Linux\zfs-pds-upgrade
    Download_path\ZSM\ZfS\TedPol\Solaris\zfs-pds-upgrade

    and select the upgrade option.

  • Server Software Package: You can upgrade the following ZENworks components using the appropriate .cpk files contained in the SP2 download file:

    Policy and Distribution Services
    Inventory Agent
    Remote Management

IMPORTANT:  Where you have ZENworks 6.5 or 6.5 SP1 servers installed in a cluster that you want to upgrade to SP2, you cannot use a Server Software Package.

For more detailed SP2 upgrade information, see ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Support Pack 2 in the updated ZENworks 6.5 Server Management Installation Guide.

4.0 Known Issues for SP2

The following sections contain new issues for ZENworks 6.5 SP2.

4.1 Policy and Distribution Services

The following sections list the issues that are new in SP2 for Policy and Distribution Services.

4.1.1 Distribution fails on a cluster aware server

A certificate replacement error is generated when sending a Distribution from the Distributior server to its own Subscriber if ZENworks is installed on a cluster's node server, instead of the cluster server, and if there are underscores in the Distributor's DNS name. In this case, the underscores are interpreted as dashes, and therefore its DNS name is not resolved.

Workaround:

  1. Open the sys:\zenworks\zfs-startup.xml file in a text editor.

  2. Change the HOSTS entry from:

    <parameter_name="Hosts"/>

    to:

    <parameter_name="Hosts">DNS_name_using_underscores.zenworks.provo.novell.com;DNS-name-using-dashes.zenworks.provo.novell.com/></parameter>

where .zenworks.provo.novell.com is your part of the server's full DNS name.

  3. Exit and save the changes to the .xml file

  4. Restart ZENworks using zfsstop, then zfsstart.

  5. Resend the Distribution.

4.1.2 Clustering services can go offline after installing SP2

If your cluster is running on servers with slow hardware, or on servers heavily loaded with other software running, the cluster can be set off-line by Cluster services if it detects that not all commands in the script completed successfully. For example, ZENworks might not load within the default timeout of 25 seconds.

Workaround: To restore the cluster resource and reload ZENworks, enter the following command from the server console:

cluster online cluster_resource_name

For more information, see TID 10096473 in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.

4.1.3 Cannot Upgrade Clustered Servers Using the Server Software Packages

The SP2 Companion CD download package includes the following Server Software Packages:

  • zsm652_polydist.cpk
  • zsm65sp2_invagnt.cpk
  • zsm65sp2_remmgmt.cpk
  • remstandalonepacpro.zip

These cannot be used to upgrade clustered servers to SP2 for the following reasons:

  • Server Software Packages do not have Novell eDirectoryTM access
  • Server Software Packages can only update the current active node, leaving the other nodes not updated

4.1.4 Manual Distributions created in ZENworks 6.5 do not work in ZENworks 6.5 SP1 or SP2

The Manual Distribution Wizard has been enhanced in SP1 so that re-baselining of Manual Distributions is no longer necessary when upgrading. Therefore, Distributions created in version 6.5 of the Manual Distribution Wizard do not work in SP1 or SP2.

Workaround: After upgrading to ZENworks 6.5 SP2 from ZENworks 6.5, re-create your manual Distributions using the updated version of the Manual Distribution Wizard. (This is not necessary if you re-created them when upgrading from ZENworks 6.5 to ZENworks 6.5 SP1.)

4.1.5 Manual Distributions to Linux Subscribers require browsing for the working directory

For NetWare and Windows servers, the working directory is found by the Manual Distribution process. However, Linux server file systems are not recognized.

Workaround: Set up a share in Samba for the Linux servers. The Manual Distribution process then recognizes the Linux server's working directory as it would for a Windows server.

4.1.6 ZfS 3.0.2 External Subscribers cannot receive encrypted ZENworks 6.5 SP2 Distributions

ZENworks 6.5 SP2 Distributors cannot successfully send encrypted SP2 Distributions to ZfS 3.0.2 External Subscribers. However, SP2 Distributors can successfully send encrypted SP2 Distributions to regular ZfS 3.0.2 Subscribers.

Workaround: None.

4.1.7 Encrypted Distributions do not work after upgrading to SP2

After upgrading NetWare Subscribers to ZENworks 6.5 SP2 from ZENworks 6.5, or from ZfS 3.0.2 via ZENworks 6.5, encrypted Distribution support is lost for the upgraded Subscriber servers.

Workaround: Reboot the upgraded NetWare Subscriber servers. Then, the encrypted Distributions can be extracted.

4.1.8 Installing iManager 2.5 abends the NetWare server

When installing iManager 2.5, at the point the "Processing Settings" message is displayed, the NetWare server being installed to abends. However, if Java* is unloaded before installing iManager, the server does not abend.

Workaround: To install iManager 2.5, unload the Server Management processes, which require Java to be loaded.

4.1.9 Exception given when upgrading a NetWare 6.5 SP3 (OES) server to SP2 using the zsm652_polydist.cpk file

When NetWare 6.5 servers are upgraded to SP3 (NetWare OES), a newer JVM* is installed that is incompatible with the zencommon.jar file in ZENworks 6.5, so the Server Policies and Server Software Package functionalities no longer work. Therefore, an exception is given when trying to upgrade OES servers to ZENworks 6.5 SP2 using the Server Software Package.

Workarounds: Choose one of the following options:

  • Install ZENworks 6.5. SP2 using the GUI installation instead of using the .cpk file. The zencommon.jar file copied during the GUI installation of SP2 is compatible with the JVM used by OES.

  • To install SP2 using the .cpk file, do the following:

    1. Send the zencommon.jar file contained in the SP2 download as a File Distribution to the target OES servers to replace the older zencommon.jar file with the SP2 version.

    2. Restart ZENworks on the OES servers so that it recognizes the new zencommon.jar file.

    3. Send the zsm652_polydist.cpk file as a Software Package Distribution to those OES servers to successfully upgrade them to SP2.

  • To install ZENworks 6.5 SP2 using the .cpk file, install ZENworks 6.5 SP2 on the server before installing NetWare 6.5 SP3 (or OES) on the server. The ZENworks 6.5 SP2 zencommon.jar file is compatible with the JVM used by OES.

4.2 Server Inventory

The following sections list the new issues in SP2 for Server Inventory.

4.2.1 Data Export issue

From a Novell ConsoleOne® installation having ZENworks 6.5 SP2 Inventory snap-ins, you cannot invoke the Data Export utility for a ZENworks 6.5 Inventory database by clicking the Tools menu > ZENworks Inventory > Data Export.

Workaround: In ConsoleOne, right-click the ZENworks 6.5 Inventory database object, then click Data Export.

4.3 Remote Management

The following sections list the new issues in SP2 for Remote Management.

4.3.1 Multi-monitor support

If a managed server has multiple monitors, a remote session from a management console manages only the primary monitor of the managed server.

4.3.2 Setting a password on a NetWare 6.5 cluster using the ZENworks 6.5 Server Management GUI installation

On a NetWare 6.5 cluster, if a password is set using the ZENworks 6.5 Server Management GUI installation, then upgrading RConJ Agent using a ZENworks 6.5 Server Management SP2 Software Package Distribution fails to load the RConJ Agent. However, the RConJ Agent files are updated.

For loading the RConJ Agent, use the ZENworks 6.5 Server Management SP2 GUI installation.

4.3.3 Remote Management Agent Help File Might Fail to Launch

The Remote Management Agent help might not launch from the Remote Management Agent icon in the system tray of the managed device.

Workaround: To view the Help, navigate to the following location and double-click rcagent.chm:

zenworks_agent_directory\rmagent\nls\language_directory

4.4 Management and Monitoring Services

The following sections list the new issues in SP2 for Management and Monitoring Services.

4.4.1 When trying to add nodes to the monitored nodes for inactivity, the selected nodes are not added for monitoring

If your preferred RMON agent for the segment is a Netware server, unload and reload the Traffic Analysis Agent on the server.

4.4.2 While using the ZENworks 6.5 or SP2 ConsoleOne snap-ins to view Trend and Summary for a Windows 2000 Server running the ZfS 3.0.2 agent, a communication error message pops up and no data is shown in the view

Update the ZfS 3.0.2 agent to ZfS 3.0.2 IR2 and restart the agents on the Windows 2000 server.

4.4.3 In a Trend View, the string is displayed incorrectly when an Adapter number has "E" in the string followed by a numeric value

In a Trend View, if an Adapter number has "E" in the string followed by numeric value, then "E" is taken as an exponential in the string and zeros are displayed as its numeric value. For example, Adapter number 1 008048134E10 is displayed as 1 0080481340000000000.
