Updated the following section:

2.0 Supported Platforms

Some of the platforms that ZENworks 7 Server Management originally supported might no longer be supported by their vendors. If you encounter issues in such platforms, we recommend you to move to one of the platforms that is supported by ZENworks 7 Server Management and the vendor.

For more information on the supported platforms, see ZENworks 7 Server Management Installation Guide.

3.0 Downloading and Extracting Interim Release 4 for Windows and NetWare

  1. Locate the Interim Release download at the Novell downloads Web site, then search for the ZENworks 7 product and this Interim Release 4 (IR4) release.

  2. Follow the prompts to copy the download file, zsm7sp1_ir4.zip, to a suitable network path.

We recommend that you extract this Interim Release to the root of a local drive of a Windows workstation or to the root of a network server volume because it contains directory paths that could exceed the DOS limits.

  3. Unzip the zsm7sp1_ir4.zip file.

IMPORTANT:If you chose to download zsm7sp1_ir4.zip to a location that includes a space in the path, for example, c:\documents and settings\downloads, the .zip fails to extract. To work around this problem, run the .zip from a DOS command prompt.

The .zip file extracts to a folder named zsm7sp1_ir4.

4.0 Installing the Interim Release to Your ZENworks Servers

We recommend that you back up your existing installation before applying the files from this interim release. The interim release installation updates a limited number of files.

NOTE:You must follow the proper installation order when you upgrade to IR4. For more information, see Section 4.1, Interim Release 4 Installation Order.

4.1 Interim Release 4 Installation Order

Interim Release 4 is not a full overlay of ZENworks 7 Server Management with Support Pack 1. You must have the shipping version of ZENworks 7 Server Management with Support Pack 1 already installed on the server before you can install IR4. IR4 is a comprehensive maintenance release, which means that it includes all of the fixes made after Support Pack 1 shipped.

Policy and Distribution Services should be updated first to update the Software Packaging feature because Server Inventory and Remote Management use this for their updates. Then you can update Server Inventory, Remote Management, and Management and Monitoring Services in any order.

4.2 Installing Policy and Distribution Services

Installing IR4 for Policy and Distribution Services requires updating the software then updating the plug-ins and snap-ins.

4.2.1 Interim Release 4 Installation Using Software Package

Follow the steps to update Interim Release 4 on NetWare, Windows, or Linux servers:

  1. Make sure that no Distributions are currently running or are set to run.

For example, make sure that all other Channels are set to Inactive until after IR4 CPK has been sent and extracted. You will be creating separate Channels for this Interim Release CPK.

  2. Copy the ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_ted\cpk\zsm7sp1_ir4_polydist.cpk file to the Distributor server.

  3. Create a Software Package Distribution to include the zsm7sp1_ir4_polydist.cpk file.

  4. Because Distributor servers must be updated first, do the following:

    1. Create a Channel for this Interim Release that will be used to update the Distributor servers.

If you were to include a Subscriber (that is on the same device as a Distributor) in the same channel as all of the other Subscribers, it could cause the Distributor to stop in the middle of sending IR4 to the other Subscribers, because the CPK restarts the ZfS Service and the send would not resume until the Channel's Send schedule starts again.

    2. For each Distributor server, subscribe its Subscriber to this Channel.

    3. Add the Software Package Distribution to this Channel.

    4. Set the Channel's Send schedule to Immediate.

    5. If necessary, resolve the certificates.

If you installed the server new before installing IR4, you need to resolve certificates.

    6. Refresh the Distributor that owns this Software Package Distribution.

This causes the Distributor to build the Software Package Distribution so that IR4 can be sent and installed on all Distributor servers via their Subscribers.

    7. After the Distributions have been sent and extracted, set this Channel to Inactive so that it won't be sent again to these Subscribers.

  5. After the Distributors have received and extracted the patch, do the following for the target Subscriber servers:

    1. Create a separate Channel for this Interim Release that will be used to send it to all of the Subscribers needing to receive the patch.

    2. Subscribe all of these Subscribers to this Channel.

Be sure to exclude any Subscribers where their Distributors have already been updated.

    3. Add the Software Package Distribution to this Channel.

    4. Set the Channel's Send schedule to Immediate.

    5. Refresh the Distributor to install IR4 on the Subscriber servers.

The Subscriber servers will be updated with IR4 according to each Subscriber’s Extract schedule.

    6. After the Distributions have been sent and received, set this Channel to Inactive so that it won't be sent again to these Subscribers.

The Subscriber servers will be updated according to the Channel's Send and Subscribers’ Extract schedules.

  6. If desired, you may run a utility that was included with previous patches. It can determine if the patch was applied properly.

This tool can be run from the following locations:

    Netware: sys:\temp\zsm7\patch\utils\checkpolydistfiles.ncf

    Windows: c:\temp\zsm7\patch\utils\checkpolydistfiles.bat

Linux: Check the version of the RPMs. Ensure that the versions are as follows:

    • novell-zen-zws-7.0.1-8

    • novell-zen-zfs-7.0.1-x

      The value of x must be 8 for IR4, 9 for IR4HP1, 10 for IR4HP2.

On Netware and Windows, after you have run this utility, it generates a cpdf.log file that contains the results of the patch installation.

4.2.2 Updating the iManager Plug-ins

  1. Based on the folder structure in this patch under the ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_ted\dirstruc\imanager\webapps\nps directory, copy the files in this patch to the target servers running Novell iManager plug-ins.

If prompted to overwrite files, select Yes to All.

    Target path examples:

    iManager Mobile: installation_location\imanager\tomcat\webapps\nps\

    iManager on NetWare: sys:\tomcat\5.0\webapps\nps\

  2. Restart TomCat.

4.2.3 Updating the ConsoleOne Snap-ins

  1. Shut down ConsoleOne® if it is running.

  2. Based on the folder structure in this patch under the ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_ted\dirstruc\consoleone directory, update the ConsoleOne snap-ins with the new JAR files in this patch.

If prompted to overwrite files, select Yes to All.

    Target path examples:

    NetWare: sys:\public\mgmt\consoleone\

    Windows: c:\novell\consoleone\

  3. Restart ConsoleOne.

4.3 Installing Server Inventory and Remote Management

Installing IR4 for Server Inventory and Remote Management requires updating the Inventory Server software and the ConsoleOne components, then updating the agents using Software Packages.

4.3.1 Updating the Inventory Server and ConsoleOne Components

  1. Stop ConsoleOne, if it is running.

  2. Stop the Inventory service and XML Proxy service, if they are running.

For more information on how to stop these services, see the ZENworks 7 Server Management Administration Guide.

  3. (Conditional) While upgrading the NetWare server using the Inventory Agent software package file (zsm7sp1_inv_agnt_ir4.cpk), ensure that no scan is scheduled on the server.

  4. In the downloaded and unzipped files, locate and edit ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_invrm\zfs7sp1ir4invrm_updt.bat to set the value for the following variables:

    1. CD_ROOT = extraction_directory\zfs_invrm\zfs.

    2. (Conditional) To upgrade the ConsoleOne components of Server Inventory or Remote Management, set the value of C1_ROOT = ConsoleOne_installation_path, where c:\consoleone\1.2 is the default value.

    3. (Conditional) If ZENworks 7 Server Management is installed on a NetWare server, then set the value of NWSYS to the drive mapped to the SYS: volume on the NetWare server.

    4. (Conditional) To upgrade the Inventory server, set the value of ZENPATH = ZENworks_installation_path, where c:\zenworks is the default value.

  5. Run zfs7sp1ir4invrm_updt.bat from the Windows device where zsm7sp1_ir4.zip was extracted.

If you are upgrading an Inventory server and have more than one Inventory server installed in your network, you must repeat Step 4 and Step 5 for each Inventory server.

  6. Execute queryswsupportpack_fix.sql on the database (use mssql_queryswsupportpack_fix.sql in case of MS SQL).

The script is available in the respective directories (sybase, oracle or mssql) of Inventory_server_installation_path\zenworks\inv\ server\wminv\properties\sql.zip on Windows and /etc/opt/novell/zenworks/inv/sql.zip on Linux.

To run the script on Sybase*, create a new folder and copy the queryswsupportpack_fix.sql from the sql.zip file to the new folder. Navigate to Inventory_server_installation_path\zenworks\inv\ server\wminv\bin in case of Windows or /opt/novell/zenworks/bin in case of Linux and run sybindex -path full path of the newly created folder.

  7. Restart the Inventory and XML Proxy services, if they are installed on the server.

For more information on how to restart these services, see the ZENworks 7 Server Management Administration Guide.

  8. Restart ConsoleOne.

4.3.2 Installing the Inventory Agent Using a Software Package

  1. Create a separate Channel for this Interim Release CPK.

  2. Copy the ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_invrm\cpk\zsm7sp1_inv_agnt_ir4.cpk file to the Distributor server.

  3. Create a Software Package Distribution to include the zsm7sp1_inv_agnt_ir4.cpk file.

  4. Create a separate Channel for this Interim Release.

  5. Add the Software Package Distribution to a Channel that contains all of the Subscribers to receive the patch.

  6. Refresh the Distributor.

4.3.3 Installing the Remote Management Agent Using a Software Package

  1. Copy the ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_invrm\cpk\zsm7_rmagent_sp1ir4.cpk file to the Distributor server.

  2. Create a Software Package Distribution to include the zsm7_rmagent_sp1ir4.cpk file.

  3. Create a separate Channel for this Interim Release.

  4. Associate all Subscribers to the Channel which are to receive the Remote Management agent CPK.

  5. Create a CPK variable MIRROR in the Subscriber object.

If you want to install Mirror Driver, set the value as YES; otherwise, set the value as NO.

  6. Add the Software Package Distribution to the Channel that contains all of the Subscribers to receive the patch.

4.4 Installing Management and Monitoring Services

  1. Stop Management and Monitoring Services.

  2. Based on the folder structure in this patch under the ...\zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_mms directory, copy the files in this patch to the target servers running Management and Monitoring Services.

If prompted to overwrite files, select Yes to All.

  3. Restart Management and Monitoring Services.

5.0 Fixed Issues

For a list of the issues fixed in ZENworks 7 Server Management with Support Pack 1 Interim Release 4, see Novell Support site.

6.0 Known Issues

The following sections list the software issues that are known:

6.1 Unable to resolve certificates on Linux from ConsoleOne

The certificates do not get resolved on a linux platform from Consoleone.

Workaround: To resolve certificates on a Linux device, do as follows:

  1. Create a samba share by editing the /etc/samba/smb.conf file to add the following:

    [zen$]

    comment = Zenworks Share

    path = /var/opt/novell/zenworks

    writeable = yes

    browseable = yes

    valid users = root

  2. Restart the samba service to enable the new share.

  3. Browse to the zen$/zfs/pds/security folder to resolve the certificate.

6.2 Updating the software dictionary

You must manually download the dictionary from the Novell Support site and save it in the zenworks_installation_directory\zenworks\inv\server\dictdir directory on the Inventory server. For more information, see the Novell ZENworks 7 Desktop Management documentation Web site.

6.3 The iPrint policies that distribute printers hosted on NetWare servers that are migrated to OES Linux are broken

Workaround: The iPrint policies continue to work as long as the NetWare print server is up. However, if the NetWare print servers are removed from the network, the iPrint policies no longer work. Contact Novell Support for a solution that repopulates the iPrint policies with references to the migrated printers that are now hosted on OES Linux.

6.4 Manually updating Policy and Distribution Services does not copy some required files

If you manually update the Policy and Distribution Services by copying the files from the \zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_ted\dirstruc\raw_files directory, the njclv2.jar and jncpv2.dll files that are required are not copied because the files are not listed in this directory.

Workaround: Copy the njclv2.jar and jncpv2.dll files from the \zsm7sp1_ir4\zfs_ted\dirstruc\patch directory to the sys:\java directory.

6.5 Unable to perform encrypted Distribution on a Netware device

After upgrading to IR4 on a Netware device, you might not be able to perform encrypted Distribution on the device.

Workaround: Restart the device.

6.6 Unable to view the ZENworks Server Management Reports in ConsoleOne

If you change the database password by using the DBPasswordUpdater tool, you cannot view the ZSM reports in ConsoleOne. For more information, see TID 7001467 in the Novell Support Knowledgebase.

Workaround: Do the following:

  1. Copy the DB.properties file that is generated by DBPasswordUpdater tool to the bin directory of ConsoleOne installation.

  2. Restart ConsoleOne.

For more information on using DBPasswordUpdater tool to change the password, see Changing the Default Sybase Database Password.
