Novell® ZENworksTM for Servers (ZfS) Policy and Distribution Services is a directory-enabled distribution, configuration, and behavioral management system for servers. It provides the means to manage Policy and Distribution Services for all servers from one workstation using ConsoleOneTM.
This section provides instructions on installing and setting up the Policy and Distribution Services components of the ZfS product. Because this service enforces policies and distributes software throughout a network environment, we strongly recommend against a first-time installation of Policy and Distribution Services in a production environment.
Before deploying to your production environment, you should understand the current Tiered Electronic Distribution (TED) architecture, carefully plan your implementation, and set up a test environment. For information on understanding and planning your ZfS Policy and Distribution Service implementation, see "Planning a Policy and Distribution Services Deployment" in Policy and Distribution Services.
Only the basic information you will need to install and set up Policy and Distribution Services to a test system is provided in this section. For more advanced setup and administration information, see Policy and Distribution Services.

IMPORTANT: If you are implementing ZfS2 in an environment that is running ZENworks 2 or ZenWorks for Desktops (ZfD) 3, there are specific compatibility issues that must be addressed before installation. Before installing the product, you must read the README.TXT file located at the root directory of the ZfS Software CD. This file contains additional installation, configuration, and compatibility information that must be reviewed before installing ZfS. For detailed information on compatibility issues, see the compatibility appendix in Management and Monitoring Services or Policy and Distribution Services.
