Before you install the software, you must:
You must install the Microsoft Registry service if you are installing the Windows NT agents from a Windows 98 workstation. To use the Remote Registry service, you must be using user-level security and have the Remote Administration option enabled.
To install the Remote Registry service:
Enable user-level access control. Skip this step if you are using user-level security on your Windows 98 workstation.
From the Control Panel of your workstation, click Network.
Click Add > Service > Add > Have Disk.
In the Copy Manufacturer's Files From text box, enter the path ADMIN\NETTOOLS\REMOTEREG on your Windows 95 CD or TOOLS\RESKIT\NETADMIN\REMOTEREG on your Windows 98 CD > click OK.
When the Microsoft Remote Registry Service has been added to the list of installed components, click OK.
Restart your computer when prompted.
In order to use user-level security, there must be a Microsoft Windows NT-based computer or Novell NetWare server on the network to act as a security provider. If you are using a Windows NT-based computer as your security provider, you must enable File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks. If you are using a Novell NetWare server as your security provider, you must enable File and Printer Sharing for NetWare Networks.
Before you install the software, you must:
Before you install the Management and Monitoring services software, you must update the Java files on your target management server.
To update the Java files on your target management server:
Unload JAVA.NLM (at a server's console prompt, type: JAVA -EXIT).
Locate the JVM.EXE file in the \JAVA directory of the ZfS Companion CD and unzip it to the root of the SYS: volume.
You must extend the schema once per NDS tree before installing the ZfS software. Depending on how synchronization and backup are set up in NDS on your network, schema extension can take up to 12 hours or more.
To extend the schema:
Log in with Admin or equivalent rights to the root of the tree containing the target management server.
Insert the ZfS Software CD.
If the startup screen is not automatically launched after inserting the CD, you can launch it by running WINSETUP.EXE at the root of the CD.
Click Extend NDS Schema > select the tree that contains the target management server.
Click Next.
Click Yes twice to confirm the extension and the memory requirement for the targeted server.
The ZfS classes are propagated throughout the tree. The following four ZfS classes (MW:classname) are created in NDS:
Click OK at the "schema extension succeeded" message.
ZfS automatically extends the schema for Server Policy, Tiered Electronic Distribution, ManageWise®, Role-Based Services, NT, and SAS (Server Authentication Service). Each schema can have one or more classes.
NOTE: This procedure describes the steps to install a new implementation of ZfS 2.0. To upgrade from ManageWise 2.7 to ZfS2 Management and Monitoring Services, see Upgrading to ZfS Management and Monitoring Services from ManageWise 2.7. To migrate from ZfS 1.0 Policy and Distribution Services to ZfS2 Policy and Distribution Services, see Upgrading to ZfS Management and Monitoring Services from ManageWise 2.7.
To install the server software:
If you haven't already done so, log in with Admin or equivalent rights to the target management server and the container containing the target management server.
If Sybase is running on the server on which the database will be installed, quit the Sybase engine now.
Insert the ZfS Software CD.
The startup screen appears. If the startup screen is not automatically launched after inserting the CD, you can launch it by running WINSETUP.EXE at the root of the CD.
Click ZENworks for Servers > Install Management and Monitoring Services.
If you restart the target management server after you mapped a drive at the workstation, the ZfS installation may no longer recognize the mapped drive. Detach the tree from NetWare Connection, disconnect the mapped drive, and remap the volume.
HINT: We recommend that you do not install on the SYS: volume of your target management server.
Click Install Site Management Services and Agents.
Click Next at the Welcome screen.
Select the desired ZfS components listed in the following table.
IMPORTANT: You need Admin or equivalent rights to target servers. Create a shared volume on all Windows NT servers on which you will be installing the ZfS agents.
Click Next.
If you selected to install Management Site Services, complete one of the following:
IMPORTANT: Because Management and Monitoring Services and Policy and Distribution services use different licensing models, they each require their own licenses. Even after completing this procedure and installing a license, you will still need to install a Policy and Distribution license when you install Policy and Distribution services.
Select a NetWare server that will be a management site server > specify the location (volume and path) where the software will be installed > click Next.
You must have rights to copy files to the target server and create rights in the same container as the selected server.
Enter a name for the service locator object and specify its context.
Other management objects will need to be created in this context. If multiple management sites will be used, specify a context that will be readily accessible. The default name and context are provided based on the management server you selected in Step 10.
Click Next.
Enter a password for each service-level account displayed > click Next.
There are three database user accounts: MW_DBA with Database rights, MW_Updater with Read and Write rights, and MW_Reader with Read Only rights. These accounts are used for a number of services to access the database. Normally, you would use these accounts only to designate an access level for third-party products to use when accessing the database.
If you selected to install the Management Site Services component in Step 7, enter the default password for the remote management agents > click Next.
This password is used as the default to install the remote management agent for NetWare and Windows NT servers.
Click Next to confirm the folder where ConsoleOne and the management snap-ins will be installed.
or
Click Browse to change the location > click Next.
If you selected to install the Server Management Traffic Analysis, Inventory Management, or Remote Management components in Step 7, select the NetWare and NT/2000 servers, the agents to install on each server, and the destination folder for the software > click Next.
Review the summary list of selections you made in the preceding steps. To change a setting, click Back. Otherwise, click Finish to complete the installation.
The ZfS server files are installed.
If you are not migrating a ManageWise 2.x database or do not need to reconfigure your discovery parameters beyond the default settings (for example, using SNMP community names other than PUBLIC), select Yes when prompted to start the autodiscovery process; otherwise, click No.
IMPORTANT: To migrate a ManageWise 2.x database, you need an empty ZfS discovery database. Therefore, it is important that you do not start autodiscovery at this time. For detailed instructions, see Upgrading to ZfS Management and Monitoring Services from ManageWise 2.7.
When prompted to start the back-end processes, select Yes if you started the autodiscovery process; otherwise, select No.
IMPORTANT: If you are installing Management and Monitoring Services on a NetWare 6 server, select No when prompted to start the back-end process. You need to download and install the ZfS2 Support Pack 1a and the ZfS2 JVM patches, then start the back-end processes. For more information, see Upgrading or Migrating NetWare 4.x/5.x Servers Running ZENworks for Servers 2 to NetWare 6 in the Installation and Setup guide.
Click Finish.
HINT: We recommend that you restart the management server if you are running BTRIEVE* or will be receiving SNMP v2 traps.
After all the ZfS agents and Java processes are installed, they are functional and activated. For managed servers on NetWare, the ZfS agents are automatically started. For managed servers on Windows NT/2000, you must restart Windows NT/2000 after you install the agents. If you installed the server inventory agents on Windows NT servers, run the NTSCAN32.EXE file from the destination folder.
You can install multiple management consoles for accessing data on a management server. You must have Admin rights to the workstation to install the management console software on a Windows NT workstation.
To install the ZfS console software:
If you have not already done so, install ConsoleOne from the ZfS Companion CD to your workstation.
IMPORTANT: ZfS requires that you use the ConsoleOne version shipped on the ZfS Companion CD.
If you have not already done so, log in as an Admin user or equivalent to the NDS tree containing the target management server.
Insert the ZfS Software CD.
If the startup screen is not automatically launched after inserting the CD, you can launch it by running WINSETUP.EXE at the root of the CD.
Click ZENworks for Servers > Install Management and Monitoring Services > Install Site Management ConsoleOne Snapins.
Enter a destination folder for the snap-ins or click Next to accept the default destination folder.
The snap-in files are copied.
Select to view the Readme file > click Finish.
You can begin using the management console to manage and monitor your network after you have started the management server.
To start the management console:
Log in to the NDS tree containing the management server.
Click ZfS Console in the ZfS Program Group on the Windows Start menu.
Novell ConsoleOne is started.
After you complete the discovery process, click ZfS Sites to begin managing your network.
HINT: If you did not start the auto-discovery and back-end services during installation, you will not be able to expand the site and use the Atlas view until you complete the discovery process.
Click to expand the site > click Atlas > Atlas View.
WARNING: ZfS creates an external scope object when the product is installed. You should not modify this NDS object or allow anyone access to modify it.
The external scope object for the site allows you to have access to all objects discovered for this site's database. If this object is corrupted, you may have reduced the scope and the only way to get this scope object back is to reinstall the product.
