The focus of the Installation guide is setting up a pilot system so that you can better understand ZfS 3 Server Inventory. The pilot system consists of a management console, an Inventory server, an Inventory database running Sybase*, and one or more inventoried servers, as shown below.
In this setup, the Inventory server and the inventoried servers are residing on the same Novell eDirectoryTM tree. To understand the Inventory scanning process, see Understanding the Inventory Scanning Cycle in the Standalone Scenario in Server Inventory in the Administration guide.
Before you install Server Inventory in a large enterprise, you must plan and decide the Inventory server tree hierarchy for your company. You should organize your inventory deployment based on your network and information requirements. For more information, see Setting Up Server Inventoryin Server Inventory in the Administration guide.
To install ZfS 3 Server Inventory to servers where ZfS 2 was previously installed, follow the instructions in Upgrading Server Inventory .
